Looks as if the North East of the States is due for a big snow dump - a powerful storm system is due to hit this Friday dumping up to two feet of snow in Boston and up to a foot in NYC.

lots of lines again papa, we prefered your colourful charts, in pink showing snow and depths!!!

Latest output continues to suggest we'll be getting mostly cold rain - could be interesting to the North Sun / Monday though - and perhaps some back edge snow further South

The latest GFS shows a lot of rain here, with a chance of some back edge snow. Our chances of snow hinge on the exact path of the low pressure. We need it to track further south, and to develop a quick easterly flow to drag colder air off the near continent.

Whatever way it happens, down here it's going to be at best a 'rain to snow' event... which is never ideal.

The 50/60/50/40% run from early Tuesday looks our best bet.

Meteociel - Diagrammes GEFS

But the 2m temps look quite high.

North East Coast of the US is starting to take a battering with a lot of snow expected with strong winds driving the heavy snow.

Wouldnt mind some of what they are having myself !! 6 inches of snow expected in NYC !!

Yep - you get proper snow in the States. In New York we had about 10 inches in Central Park and one of my mates in Connecticut said they had nearly 3 feet in some areas.

And do all the trains run to time, all roads gritted, etc, etc?

Looked like a few train lines were suspended from the news, subway looked like it ran with delays. Lots of roads got blocked too and some werent cleared.

All 3 New York airports were shut too. Basically roughly what happens here - but with more snow.

Saw on the news that some places had 20 inches - cant they share it with us ?

This mornings high res NAE model has a chance of some heavy snow late Sunday into Monday, but away from the coastal strip. Central Sussex could get some. It will be falling into wet surfaces though, so it will need to be heavy to settle.

Over there
The award-winning official "More snow tomorrow?" thread [2012-13 season]

It's been pouring with rain all day here in Southend. We left a friends house about an hour and half ago and it was just starting to snow. "that'll never settle you know" I said to my wife. Just looked out of the window and its belting down and everything is starting to turn white. Even settling on the pavement
