Piers Morgan interviewed Rubiales... christ almighty why does it not surprise me that he's got his grubby hands involved ffs
Not a cat in hell's chance.I wonder if he's sorry. Like, really, really sorry.
Of course I have - it depends on the context - and in the Spanish context it is possible that a fascist party could form part of the next Spanish government (just like there is a far-right party leading the Italian government at the moment) and the Vox party are intent on attacking women's rights and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.Have you ever posted a message here that doesn’t include 'fascist' or 'fascism'? I’m not keen on these things either but you do seem just a tiny bit obsessive.
Bizarre last few weeks.
If he had immediately apologised and learnt from it it would have sent a far more powerful message.
As for this being a left / right wing issue, complete nonsense. It's about a power imbalance between men and women which has existed in left wing circles too.
Was it the "political context" in this country where it's been brushed under the carpet in left wing circles or in other institutions where you "couldn't possibly believe it could happen.." ?
It just diverts from the dickhead responsible.
3 million Spaniards voted this summer for a party that campaigned to do away with gender violence laws, block access to abortion and repeal the "only yes means yes" law.
Mentioning this doesn't divert responsibiliy from Rubiales.
I wonder whether @wellquickwoody gave you a thumbs up because he is pleased it has turned into a left versus right thing, or disappointed.
I'd like to see some people on the right stepping forward and owning the condemnation of this entitled Spanish arsehole.
Edit: hats off to @Beach Hut above
Too simplistic, just like these Right-Left labels. I see no clear distinction between what I think I understand by your use of left and right here. They’re both deeply dissatisfied by authority as it’s currently behaving, and elements of both sides seemed quite excited by both the Spain football / gender politics issue and the escape from Wandsworth, for instance. I’m sure most people here have heard of the Horseshoe Theory of politics. It explains a lot.Given that only those who are NSC right wingers think the bloke did nothing wrong, and none of our NSC left wingers think he did not do something wrong, and one side or the other equates their latest disagreement with their allegiance then, yes, it is a left vs right thing. If you consider yourself on the right, and consider that the bloke did something wrong, good.
On this occasion, also, @Jolly Red Giant is correct to link the entitlement of the bloke and his supporters with the traditional arrangements created by Spain's right wing.
Good riddance to bad rubbish I say.
Him eventually ‘resigning’ must not be the end of it though. He needs to understand and pay for what he did. I honestly don’t think he believes he’s done anything wrong. The fact that in the early stages, the Spanish FA were intending to take action against Hermoso, shows how muchthere is wrong with the culture in Spain towards women.
I very much doubt that many people want to "overturn progress" (which you rightly describe as rapid) but there’s no doubt that some older people in particular (of both genders, incidentally) are finding it harder to get with the programme after 40, 50, 60 years of living in a different universe. Ironically enough, a bit more tolerance and understanding and 'kindness' towards them wouldn’t go amiss. In the culture of certain institutions and within certain groups. It's unfair to tarnish the whole country with that brush that though.
Overall, Spain is a world leader when it comes to gender equality. Unfortunately, there are segments of society that want to overturn the rapid progress that has been made over the past 20 years or so.

I'll hold up my hand to being a prick in this regard from time to time. And, as a 65 year old, somewhat condescending about it too. I'm working on it....I very much doubt that many people want to "overturn progress" (which you rightly describe as rapid) but there’s no doubt that some older people in particular (of both genders, incidentally) are finding it harder to get with the programme after 40, 50, 60 years of living in a different universe. Only sorry for himself, sorry it’s cost him his job, sorry all the freeloading will disappear and sorry he won’t get another job as cushy and well-paid ever again. Genuinely sorry ? Not a fecking hope.I wonder if he's sorry. Like, really, really sorry. Two weeks to mull things over and realise the great mistake and upset he's caused and understands that to continue in his position would be just to compound the original insult to Jenni and womankind, and he's better than that, yes, he truly is, you know. If these last two weeks have taught him anything, it's about how to show respect for your fellow human being and demonstrate a sense of humility and ability to learn from previous mistakes because, hell, we can all make them, can't we? It's just about learning from our mistakes and being a better person for them.
Nah, probably not.
I was very disappointed that people chose to make it a left v right issue, or any kind of political issue at all. What the bloke did was bloody stupid, whether he meant any harm or to offend is irrelevant, you do not behave like that in this day and age. What also annoys is the speed at which third parties chose to condemn, and the volume of the co-ordinated ’I am offended on her behalf’ protests. Mostly making money out out of selling media coverage above any real wish to make the world a better place, or like the OP, actively making it a political issue.I wonder whether @wellquickwoody gave you a thumbs up because he is pleased it has turned into a left versus right thing, or disappointed.

I was genuinely interested in your thinking. I am disappointed you think I am on a quest to score morality points. My life is a little more exciting than that. And I'm not sure that my own morality stands up to forensic scrutiny, so glass houses and all that.I was very disappointed that people chose to make it a left v right issue, or any kind of political issue at all. Seems it is just the way of the world today. Journos and commentators pushing their own careers and agendas above actually making any attempt to highlight issues for others to discuss. You perhaps also fall into this category, wanting to score morality points over others by questioning their motives.
mate, wqw thought the Albion being involved with a cancer charity was 'political correctness', really . He'll see 'virtue signalling' everywhere and anywhere.I was genuinely interested in your thinking. I am disappointed you think I am on a quest to score morality points. Perhaps you might consider whether people might have a point when they posit a narrative, rather than condemn them for even floating a notion. Certainly a public figure in the UK behaving like that coach wouldn't last five minutes. Not even Johnson said 'no, no, no' when his own MPs told him to step down. The point is that Spain is demonstrably very different in its social attitudes to the UK, and the present case has put this is sharp relief. @Jolly Red Giant is not being unreasonable to posit why. He is a historian and has some insights (even if I strongly dispute his narrative on occasion).
