Too far from the sun
Oh - come on - you are not trying to suggest that Sunak is the product of poor Indian Immigrants - his father is a doctor and his mother a pharmacist - he was education in a posh fee-paying school - went to Stanford ( - $80,000 a year - do you really think he had to get a student loan for that one) - worked for Goldman Sachs and then for a vulture fund where he became a partner. His grandparents were part of the British colonial administration in Tanganyika and Kenya. And he married into an extremely wealthy Indian family. He recently built a leisure centre on his country manor, including a swimming pool, a tennis court and a gym (in a grade II listed building) - not to talk of his house in Earl's Court, his flat in South Kensington and his holiday penthouse apartment in Santa Monica California. He didn't work his way up to Prime Minister - if anything it is a major step down for him. In fact you really need to ask the question - what is a guy who, with his wife, is listed in the richest 300 in Britain doing active in politics - because its not for the betterment of the mass of the British population.
Ah, I get you now. Anyone in any form of power who is not hard left only got there because they were “part of the elite”. Only ever born into it, never worked for it. Right

While an odd individual may transition upwards in social class - far more tend to move downwards (particularly for middle-class to working class). Money breeds money - and those who claim to be self-made rarely are (e.g. Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos).

Sunak's family (both paternal and maternal) were wealthy Punjabi Hindus who were part of the British colonial system in India - and if you call hooking a billionaire heiress while at Stanford 'working for it' then fair enough.

The good thing is that in years gone by this kind of incident wouldn't have raised more than an eyebrow but now it's international news.

The RFEF have threatened to ban any Spanish WNT player who refuses to report for international duty, from playing in internationals and from playing for their Spanish clubs for two years and to impose fines.

The reality is that nothing has changed within the RFEF towards women's football, apart from the sacking of Rubiales. They appointed Montse Tome as coach of the WNT, despite the fact that the players objected because Tome is known to be close to Rubiales. The RFEF are now threatening and attempting to intimidate the players called into the WNT squad - including sending tourist class train tickets to the Barcelona players and ordering them to travel to Valencia to meet up with the squad.

Jenni Hermoso was not selected - and Tome claimed it was because they wanted to 'protect' Hermoso. In response Hermoso asked 'Protect me from what? And from whom?' - and pointed out that as later as last Monday the RFEF had promised the WNT a 'safe environment'.

The members of the Spanish WNT have agreed to drop their boycott after 7 hours of talks between the players and their union and the RFEF. The players were threatened with fines of up to €30,000 and being banned from playing football for Spain and for Spanish clubs for between 2-15 years under Spain's fascist-era Sports law.

During the talks the RFEF agreed to implement 'profound changes' immediately and to establish a 'joint commission' involving the RFEF, the National Sports Council, FUTPRO (the players union) and the players, to oversee the implementation of the changes.

Part of the agreement is that there would be no sanctions against players that previously boycotted the squad or against any player in the current squad if they felt that they needed time before returning to the WNT - after the agreement two of the players left the squad, requesting extra time before returning to play for the WNT.

What a difficult position for the players to be in. Not sure I have any confidence that RFEF will actually implement changes after these matches

I think there is far too much national and international pressure on the RFEF not to make some changes - whether these changes will be profound is a different story.

The slight of of the RFEF sending tourist class train tickets to the Barcelona players to travel to Valencia has caused outcry - not least because of the national question in Spain relating to Catalunya. They wanted to see what the reaction would be and what they would get away with. The adverse reaction forced them into negotiations with the players and their union.

It was not an "Assault". He kissed her briefly on the lips. That is NOT an assault.

Yes it was an assault - if Rubiales grabbed you by the face and kissed you on the lips you would be screaming assault.

Furthermore - the Spanish prosecutors are investigating Rubiales for assault - so they believe an assault happened.

Changes demanded by the WNT have started to happen - RFEF General Secretary Andreu Camps has been sacked and nine other officials within the RFEF have be told to resign or they will be sacked.

Player power is bringing at least initial changes to the RFEF.
