Just listened to your conversation on the Albion Roar and must say you came across as an ok person and was great entertainment to the listener, well from my point of view anyway. Could of listened for hours.

Thanks for posting this. Kieran is absolutely fascinating. I agree with the person above who says they could listen to him for hours. It's amazing how such a topic can be so gripping in the voice of the right person. My only issue is why was he not given the whole hour to talk at the expense of some of the drivel that was included?

Because we're not here to please Gary Barlow fans - you've got Juice FM for that.

That, and maybe Kieran didn't want to spend the whole hour on a Busman's Holiday...

Average gates are only going to be about 1k higher this year, unless there's a surge towards the end of the season, so about £350-£400k extra.

Average home "attendance" last season was 26,373
Average home "attendance" so far this season is 26,923

A difference of 550.

We still have home games v Leeds, QPR, Reading, Wigan, amd Charlton, which should bring big crowds and possibly bump up the average for this season a bit.


But I don't know if the club's official finances uses tickets sold or people through the gates so am not sure how similar their figures will be.

Surely, they'll use tickets sold, since that relates directly to finances?

The Club's Accounts for 2012/13 were posted on the Companies House website yesterday evening whilst the Leeds game was in progress and at great expense to my company I've now downloaded these in pdf format for all to peruse. No doubt our resident financial guru El Pres will analyse these for us in some detail over the next few days but here are a few highlights:

As was indicated in last week's press release:
1) Annual operating losses are up from £8.6M to £14.7M
2) Ticketing income increased from £7.9M to £8.7M with the average match attendance (ie tickets sold) up from 20,028 to 26,236.
3) Income from the Football league and retail merchandising were down £0.9M and £0.6M respectively although commercial sponsorship and advertising increased by £0.3M.
4) Administrative and operational costs rose by £1.2M to £17.2M; it seems that this increase is a one-off due to staff redundancies.
5) Football costs (ie player, coaching and support staff wages; academy, training ground and player trading costs) were up from £14.8M to £21M.

Some other bits:
6) The costs of running the academy (see 5) increased from £560k to £1.386M, this was partly offset by funding of £480k received when the club was granted a Category 2 Academy Licence.
7) Whilst catering income was up £523k to £1.775M, the football club accounts do not show specifically how much it cost (if anything) to get rid of Azure and use "temporary" caterers for part of last season.
8) Income from loan players was up £215k and there is also income of £27k attributed to "Women and girls" ???
9) Income from operations and transport increased from £404k to £790k.
10) The club made a profit on player sales of £1.583M (£0.511M in 2011/12).
11) Player amortisation (ie intangible asset depreciation) was £2.671M (£2.132M in 2011/12).
12) The club paid rent of £250k to the stadium owners (The Community Stadium Ltd) for the period 1/4/13-30/6/13 - ie the annual rent is currently £1M/pa..
13) The average monthly number of employees was (2011/12 in brackets):
Players (incl youth players) - 59 (56)
Management and Administration - 180 (122)
Average Match-day P/T staff - 572 (495)
14) Total Directors' remuneration was £721k (£334k), the remuneration of the highest paid director (presumably the CEO) was £480k.

Sorry for being a bit thick, but is the CEO a Director as well? Am not so sure, but even so, the assumption that he is getting paid 480k (when a figure of just over 100k is what I had heard before), is rather a big one.

Interesting, though, that Management and Admin staff, as well as p/t match staff have gone up considerably even with redundancies. Also that we made a profit on player sales, even with bringing in Ulloa.

1: There are three paid directors, Paul Barber, Martin Perry and David Jones (the FD). It doesn't take a genius to work out which of the three picked up the £480k. I suspect that some of that £480k will be performance related in terms of negotiating new deals with sponsors and caterers.

2: The redundancies took place after the year end, so don't show up in the employee numbers, although the costs do as the job losses were announced pre-year end.

3: The profit on player sales is in relation to Craig Noone, it ignores purchases (which were £4.2 million for Ulloa, Dobbie and Crofts). Purchase costs are spread over the length of player contracts and charged in the profit and loss account as the £2.67million amortisation fee.

Of course a CEO can be a director.

Directors run the company.

The accounts will disclose all directors.

But would he not have to listed as one though, as he is only listed as CEO? I know directors run the company and the CEO carries out the wishes of the board (ie the chairman and directors), and my understanding is that a CEO is not automatically a director. But never mind, I am really questioning the assumption that the highest salary reported is that of the CEO, as it may not be.
