Brilliant advert for Test Match cricket this. I suppose entertainment is secondary to the sport.

As soon as there is a good test though, the likes of Beefy and Boycott will be banging on about how it's better than 20 20. But for every thrilling test match, there's a few dull ones - and that's 5 days of dull.

Bat time and play out for a draw. We lost the opportunity to win this test in the first inning of the match when we played two rookie bowlers who constantly let the pressure off.

If our batsmen start chasing runs we'll lose the match for sure. Good to see everyone aware of the situation of the match and the series, at this point int time I'll take a 3-0 win thanks.

Woakes has looked pretty comfortable at the crease, I'm not sure about him as 3rd seamer, however, if he could hold a place on batting merit at 6, he could at last be the 5th bowling option we've been looking for.

I'm going to the Oval tomorrow. Not hopeful of seeing much play given the weather forecast. That still might be preferable to watching any cricket if tomorrow's play replicates today's.

Woeful day's cricket, interesting quote when Woakes blazed one to the cover boundary " there are runs in this wicket if you attack the ball " . Yes, we all knew that because we can all see the Aussie 1st innings total. doh !

I see your point, but I think the England team owe it to the spectators in the ground to put on a show. At least crank it up a little. We've retained the Ashes in not such brutal fashion and I couldn't care less whether it was 3-0; 3-1; 4-0.

The play today was very dull. On the plus side, it was bloody hot so a day in the sun drinking beer was most enjoyable.

I can understand why there was no dash for runs given the game situation, but looking at the weather forecast, you'd think the chance if losing was soooo remote, a little more aggression (and therefore entertainment), would have been better in the grand scheme of things.
I'm sure the press would round on Cook/Flower if the team appeared gung-ho and lost, so it's no surprise they didn't go for it.

Had the tickets not been bought well in advance, I wouldn't have bothered - e.g. POTG would have been pointless

Don't cry for me Darren Lehmann,
Truth is I knew I nicked it.
But like an Aussie,
I stood & waited.
The finger stayed down...
How well I faked it!

You had better get used to this all the time the opposition win a toss and get in on a decent batting strip. If our bowlers let them get 500 then trust me...... Draw it is. Look at the selection before you look at the defensive posture.

Hopefully the rain will return. Watching the outfield dry is more fun than watching Englandbatting.

Woakes gone for 25 (70 balls) pushing at Harris... caught slip.

269-5

Not really learned anything about the two debutants... Woakes and Kerrigan... interesting to see if either make in on to the plane to Australia... both pretty doubtful IMHO. Woakes would depend on Bresnan's fitness, and Kerrigan on Panesar's mental state and the selectors 'bravery'.

Prior will hopefully use this to play himself into some semblance of form. He needs runs!
