492/9 declared.

Obviously worried about the weather and want to have a shot at some wickets tonight, otherwise they would have surely batted on as runs were still coming.

Possibility we could play until 19.30, so they'll have an 75 mins to bowl at us. I'd be pleasantly shocked if we had managed to not lose 2 wickets by the close.

Clarke was trying to be too clever with his bowlers, I thought. Harris has been their best bowler in the series and he only gave him three overs first up, then brings him back without giving him a proper chance to warm up so he is bowling at 77mph. Starc was bowling rubbish, get him off after three, fair enough, but Harris needs six overs spells as it takes him one to get going.

It looks pretty flat to me, nailed on draw if they lose any more time to rain. Root and Cook looked solid enough.

I was at the oval and ive never known a test match reek of draw more than what we witnessed both from the players and in the stands today.

What's interested me today is the fact Cook didn't give Kerrigan even one over, yet still let Trott bowl a few. Is that a ruthless streak coming out? Kerrigan must be feeling shit right now.

I went yesterday. All that crap about wanting to rub the Aussies noses in it, and we pick two complete no-hopers who were frankly an embarrassment. Feel sorry for Kerrigan, but how can it be that you can't risk bowling someone IN A TEST MATCH unless you put five (yes, five) fielders on the boundary. It seems the selectors had decided to hell with punters paying close on £100 to watch a proper competition....let's just treat it like a practice match. Can someone please remind them that this is The Ashes. Perhaps that doesn't matter any more? End of rant!

Ha ha. That tickled me. He was definitely concocting a dirty pint.

In a rare moment of seriousness I may have the answer. Maybe they were using a Laithwaites wine caraffe (£5 deposit) and corresponding ice cooler bag to keep their lager chilled. As a wine or bitter man I would not need to but the blokes next to me on Wednesday were complaining of warm Fosters. Yuck.

Not sure why we needed Kerrigan when Root has been bowling well. Seemed unnecessary unless the selectors genuinely thought he was a long term potential replacement for Swann. Surely there are better options than this chap?

I was cheesed off with our disgusting attitude to the game and the supporters, Aggers puts it far better than me...

Englands attitude and performance underwhelming

This team gets seriously prickly when things don't go their way. I also read David Sakers comments on criticism being harsh and anyone who was unhappy with the over rate was not educated "All they were trying to do was dry the ball. Most of the educated crowd would have known that, some of them wouldn't."

Panesar - mental
Rashid - forgotten how to bowl (if he ever knew)
Tredwell - Doesn't take wickets in FC cricket
Samit Patel - fat, lazy but talented

The well is fairly dry when we are talking English qualified spinners at the moment. It's worth remembering that Kerrigan has had a great season at Lancs this year, albeit in Div 2.

Interesting thought on Swann's future from the usually clued up George Dobell on Cric Info today may also shed some light on the Kerrigan selection

"While it had been presumed that Monty Panesar would inherit Swann's role in this side - and there are whispers that this could, just could, be Swann's final Test in England - recent revelations about Panesar have thrown some doubt over his long-term involvement. Suffice it to say, it would be naive to conclude that his bizarre behaviour in Brighton recently was simply an aberration."

Read that. It wouldn't surprise me - he'll be 35 next year and has elbow problems. I hope he'll go on for another couple of seasons but he could decide to call it a day. He's a natural for a media career. The cupboard does look bare for up and coming spinners - Danny Briggs seems to have stalled his career - he was meant to be the next big thing.

Mind you, I saw Ollie Rayner took a michelle yesterday - maybe, just maybe ...

This!

Apart from 1 or 2 sessions during the series, I think Englands attitude during the Ashes has been pathetic and complacent. The neagtivity that Cook's captaincy exudes has clearly had effects on other players.

I haven't enjoyed the Series at all, and as already stated, apart from a couple of nightmare sessions I think Australia have deserved at the very least, to have tied the Series.

The worry for England will be that they haven't managed to win this series as comprehensively as the scoreline suggests. I'm not convinced we will be favourites down under. The Australians haven't played well yet almost won the First Test and would have won the third.
