Just far enough away from LDC
It won't be long before Gambia, Kenya, Uganda and Nicaragua start sending election observers to the US as part of a UN peacekeeping force.

Can't we just rescind the declaration of independence and take the us back and look after them until we can be sure they use democracy safely?

Excellent illuminating article on how Trump (likely) plans to steal the election and what his "secret" with house speaker Mike Johnson actually is.

They've probably been mentioned on here before, but the Lincoln Project put out some excellent videos on social media.
How anybody can still support that vile person after watching their work is beyond me.

That is quite scary. So the USA is no longer a democracy at all.

One person, a State governer, has the power to disenfranchise millions of voters. f*** me. What a crap system that is.

The system of checks and balances in executive power is actually pretty good and well thought out.

But nobody could forsee a criminal like Trump and the lengths he would go to cicumvent or game the system, nor that the US supreme court would turn rogue and be a corrupt extension of MAGA rather than idependent arbitor.

What about the Senate and House of Representatives? If they go Democrat can they control his excesses, if he gets in? Saw a guy from Arizona on TV the other week who said signs were that lots of people were "splitting" their votes e.g. if they vote for Trump they will vote Democrat for HoR/Senate.

The real issue with the Supreme Court is it's Chief Justice, John Roberts. There have always been justices who have skewed left or right but the Chief Justice in charge has pulled the court into consensus. For reasons unknown Roberts has tried to appear centrist but is more & more making decisions that are keeping the SCOTUS leaning heavily right. He is still a die-hard Republican.

Cant profess to know all the finer details of the US system tbh, but Trump controlling both houses of congress would be a diaster and give him unrestrained power. Ive read most likely (about a week ago) was both houses would flip, Senate from Dem to Gop and House from Gop to Dem?

There is still a fair bit the President can do by executive order and no doubt also at state level with Republican govenors who will be pressured to comply with Trumps agenda.

I'm really quite worried about the supreme court who have gone almost entirely rogue and the 6-3 Conservative majortiy are totally partisan and are dishing out Trump wins on anything thats put in front of them, allowing all slow rolling attempts of his federal cases pre election, granting him almost full immunity for anything he did while president (which would effectively excuse him from having rivals killed when President), from allowing Pennsylvnia objections to be fast tracked and given favourably to Trump, and just yesterday they intervened at Short notice in Virgina case and have gone against federal election law to favour Trump. (Virgina republicans tried to disqualify/purge 1600 registered voters from election rolls, over 3 weeks later than the minimum time frame prior to an election that any such purges could be made - and many voters are allegedly genuine with some form of easily resolvable mistake), they left it till after the deadline, tried to remove them on masse, it was overturned on the 5th circuit as against Federal election law, and now yesterday the Supreme court has overturned the 5th circuit and is allowing Virginia to remove the 1600.
It stinks of corruption and as the last bastion of any potential Stop the Steal coup attempt, I have zero faith in their impartiality or following of the law.

Can the Supreme court going rogue, be arrested or stopped somehow is the big question?

George Conway is behind Lincoln Project, ex husband of Trumps former right hand woman Kelly-Anne Conway.

Nails it yesterday.

Isn't that just part of his backup plan? If he wins, then that tweet doesn't matter, but if he loses this is part of his 'evidence' that he was being cheated all along.
If you read that article from The Nation above, it seems pretty clear that its Plan A. And that he’s very confident it’s going to work, hence “you don’t even need to vote, we’re going to win anyway”.

It’s so beyond the pale that anyone could see this and STILL think “yeah, I want the guy actively trying to destroy my country in charge”.

Even without Roberts there are 5 Christofascist loons, including the 2 openly corrupt ones, the drunk rapist and the handmaid. Even if Roberts votes with the sane ones the loons have a majority.

Oh got it. Racism. There's no way the former DA for San Francisco, AG and Senator for California and incumbent VP could end up as Presidential nominee for any other reason than as a diversity choice.

If only she were a billionaire TV star, property mogul and serial sex pest with a history of divisive rhetoric, eh?

Biden said he was going to choose a black woman. Biden said it.

On the other side, Stephen Colbert and Seth Myers are superb, as is Kimmel. They absolutely SHRED the fat orange racist rapey bunglecvnt all through the week. And the best thing - he HATES it.

Thats your opinion and no doubt others see it the other way. The more impartial view is Colbert etc's viewing numbers are tanking along with the MSM.

What are you talking about?

Did he say that he was going to find someone, anyone, who was black? Or did he find who he considered to be the best candidate, and point out that she was black?
