Ps you missed the most recent ‘attempt’ to shoot him a few weeks ago by a pro-Ukranian nut job who’d been hiding in the bushes on the edge of a golf course for 2 days.

America eh?

I've had people hiding in the bushes on the edge of a golf course but it was to make sure they didn't get hit by my tee shot. :)

So HIGNFY is the one UK show I absolutely miss the most. Apparently this is the fourth attempt at a US version, but none of the previous versions have got past a pilot. CNN has apparently ordered an initial ten episode run of this:

First episode dropped on Friday:

It wasn't great, and certainly nowhere near as good, but it had some good moments. I hope it will improve as the host and the captains (and the guests, and the viewers) get more comfortable with the format (so they don't need to explain every round before the round starts).

I will say I absolutely hated the theme music, which is weirdly like the original theme that has been filtered through AI to make it "distinct". Also not sure why they made the half hour original into an hour long show? But then the UK did the same thing with their latest version of Jeopardy! So...

Also, Trump will absolutely hate this show. If he picks up on it and complains of "Truth" social about it, I'm sure CNN are hoping that it will absolutely blow up.

I thought it was quite funny. A very different vibe to the UK version, which I love (and is back in a couple of weeks). It's less uptight too. The jokes about race on there were neither toxic or inappropriate. They were just funny and benign. But the BBC would be too nervous to allow it

Well I'd want a shooter if playing hide and seek on a golf course in Florida. Gator territory is it not?

Civvies able to own AKs and the like is crazy. I'm glad the Potter lookalike was spotted and legged it.

Yep but I thought Trump promised way back in 2016, he was going to ‘drain the swamp’ 🙂

Although when you are up to your neck in the swamp surrounded by alligators, it’s hard to remind yourself that your initial objective was to drain the swamp

IMG_1287.jpeg

Apparently during his first Presidency he wanted to build a moat full of alligators and snakes to stop migrants crossing the border, presumably that would eat any kids crossing the moat (although he very vigorously denied it) - are these gators MAGA operatives? - I bet there aren’t many Mexicans and Latinos on Trump’s golf course eh?

Second episode dropped, unfortunately it seems that CNN has decided to post it in pieces on YouTube rather than the whole episode. It looks like they have a playlist, but it only includes two clips. Maybe they'll post the whole thing later:

Anyway, this episode I felt was a lot better than the first one. It felt like everybody was more comfortable with the format and everything flowed much better. First episodes of any show can be a bit weird while they find their feet. But it seems like they address all the problems I had with the first episode. There was less time spent explaining the bits, less time worrying about whose question it was, and a lot more spontaneous back-and-forth.

Trump media shares hit an all time low today closing at $12.15, losing over 10% in the day's trading.

The reason the stock has been plummeting recently is because the lock up period of when Trump was able to start selling his shares ended on Thursday.

However, one week before the end of the lock up period Trump announced that he had no intention of selling his shares in the hope that it would stop the stock continuing on its recent downward spiral.

But the fact that it continues to plummet, even after Trump's announcement, indicates that even his investors (supporters) don't trust his word, as since he made the announcement that he wouldn't sell, the stock has dropped by 30%.

So it looks like Trump has lost his credibility even amongst his supporters.

The other problem for Trump is that if he now starts selling his shares soon after making the announcement that he wouldn't, he could be in further legal trouble as he could face accusations of misleading his investors.

A minor story in the news today:

Trump says “Iran is trying to kill me to destabilise the US.” (But not apparently the real POTUS or VP.)

Allegedly ‘intelligence services’ briefed the Trump campaign on security matters relating to campaign safety last week following the recent assassination attempts but didn’t release any specifics...

The idea that Trump is being targeted specifically stem from a Pakistani man that was arrested back in July with connections to Iran who had told police he had come to America to ’assassinate a political person’ - but for Trump to post on Truth Social that Iran ‘is trying to kill me’ it sounds like Trump dog whistling to the Jewish community he royally pissed off last week and Netanyahu, that the US would back Israel in a war against Iran if he won the election. Last week he basically told the Jewish community , it would be their fault if Israel ceased to exist if they didn’t vote for Trump. This at a time when Israel is seemingly trying to goad Iran-backHezbollah into a full out war and threatening to invade Lebanon .

However, in terms of specific threats, ‘Federal authorities say they have found no evidence that the slain shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, [of the attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania] carried out the shooting with the assistance of anyone else, let alone Iran. Nor has any evidence emerged connecting Iran to Ryan Wesley Routh, who was apprehended after the attempted ambush of Trump earlier this month on a golf course in Florida’ either.

Although as far as Routh is concerned, he’s right about Trump - Trump tearing up the Iran Nuclear Deal and imposing very heavy sanctions on Iran as well as assassination of the Ayatollah’s top commander has result in the ME unravelling into a dangerous tinderbox.

As if he'd give a shit about that. It'd just be another crime and another court case to add to the list. And if he won the Presidency, he'd pardon himself.

Polling numbers are still tighter than a gnat’s chuff. I have a gut feeling that Harris needs to land a few more big punches and that if she doesn’t, the polling bounce she got from the debate win will swing back on Trump’s favour by the end of October.

It’s hard to see how she might do this. There’s no way Trump will put himself in the firing line of a 2nd debate. He basically needs to avoid any tricky TV interviews and hide in fridges for the next 6 weeks. Whether or not his ego will allow this is another matter.

Out of interest - why do you think it will swing back to Trump. There's not much sign of any real movement nationally.

It’s just a gut feeling, but I reckon that the 7-8 week period between that debate and election day is long enough for swing voters to forget what a disaster Trump was.

Let's hope not!
I certainly hope not. But it’s possible that the whole outcome will come down to a few thousand people in Pennsylvania who aren’t normally particularly politically engaged. Who knows how motivated they will be to vote for or against Trump in 6 weeks!

I’m not convinced that the best thing to do when applying for a fake passport is to go on TV and tell people you’re doing it

He didn't say it was a fake passport. Just a passport under a different name. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but when you become a US citizen there is a space on the form to change your name. If other countries have similar and he is applying to citizenship somewhere else (which presumably would be required to get a passport), then he could be changing his name too.

Looking into this a bit, it is indeed the case than many countries let you change your name, and some will actually require it since they have legally set rules on names. In Spain, apparently, you have to have two surnames. So if you only got one, you're gonna get another one.

It's why I changed my legal name to "Freedom Beer And Guns". I wanted something American (I would have worked Eagle in there, but didn't, for obvious reasons...)
