As a matter of interest, why should this sort of situation influence your vote? There was nothing in the Tory manifesto that could stop this happening. The only thing that might have some effect is a beefed-up system to pursue fathers for payments but that's certainly not on the Conservative agenda. Nor, indeed would it help in cases where the father is on the dole.

I'm not saying this type of occurrence should be welcomed (and I'm certainly not speaking as a Labour supporter) but I do think that to say that if we had,say, 15 years of Conservative government that this sort of think would stop is wide of the mark.

This pathetic character again. I've always thought the young women who have his children are more to blame than him. They are the ones who choose to have sexual intercourse with him. They are the ones who know no contraception is being used. They are the ones who choose to go through with the pregnancy, even though they know they'll be single mothers burdening the state. Problem with this is that you have an isolated case which the media then portray as the norm to initiate debates about the breakdown of family values and the lifestyle choice of living off welfare.

This is an exceptional case and they guy should be made to do 35 hours of community service if he refuses to work for a living. However, it is far from the norm.

Also, as someone posted, it is not the childrens fault and the best thing that society can do is to help them so as to try and prevent them going out and acting like their ignorant father (and probably in most of the cases, their ignorant mothers).

It amazes me how the peeps of NSC always reserve the harshest of judgements at these 'legal' benefit recipients.

When at the same time, no one on here has commented on the £7 billion that tax 'cheats' take from our country's economy.

Well, I don't know what things are like in Brighton but in Sunderland, and hundreds of other run-down towns and cities, whilst this is an exceptional case because of the number of children involved, it's hardly an isolated case, unfortunately.
I'd be interested, as I'm sure politicians of all parties would be, to know how society can prevent the ten children repeating the behaviour of their parents, in a few years time.

Ofcourse something should be done about those who break the law to evade taxation, though there's a very important difference between breaking the law, and having clever accountants find the ways in which individuals reduce the amount of tax they pay, completely within the law.
I agree completely with those blaming the LEGAL benefit claimants discussed in this thread. The tax dodgers you refer to are probably contributing a great deal to The Exchequer, even though they should be contributing more. Not only are the feckless ten single mothers and the hundreds of thousands like them contributing precisely nothing to our economy, in most cases; they are costing umpteen times the amount that is possibly being defrauded by the tax dodgers.
I don't know how they can do it, but if this government could begin to do something to make life less cosy for the Keith McDonalds and his stupid co-parents of this country, then more power to their elbows. Sorting out this underclass is one of GB's biggest challenges, but one with no easy solution.

It's his charm. There have been articles about him in The Sunderland Echo several times over the last few years, unfortunately. In one of them I recall him describing his technique. He gets on the bus and look for a young woman sitting alone. He sits down beside her and using his wit and repartee persuades her to have sex with him; either in the bushes as soon as they alight the bus, or that night. That's why I repeat, blame the stupid women every bit as much, or more, than him. To have a baby with as much forthought as most of us would give to choosing the curtains for our living-rooms, shows the problem is more to do with irresponsible women than the waste of space that is Keith McDonald.

Sounds like some bloke who chatted me up on the bus a few months ago, his girlfriend of SIX WEEKS had just broken up with him because he was out getting drunk all the time while she was sat at home PREGNANT. He then went into detail about how he managed to ger her pregnant (she wasn't on the pill but neither of them cared) and how he had no plans to "support the whore" and the baby.

He proceeded to ask for my number and name so he could look me up on Facebook and take me out sometime. Safe to say, he wasn't the best catch so I politely declined and made a quick escape.

He was a bit more charming than to offer to have sex in some bushes though and he did give me his Saver ticket (which I heard him shout he wanted back as I was running off the bus).
