I imagine you go to work because you want the money, the benefits that employment provides, the security, the social aspect, the freedom to talk on messageboards and because you felt there was little option but to do that.
But what if you didn't want to do that? You just still would, i suppose. But why is that good? Why is making people do what they hate a good thing?

if none of us worked what would happen to the country?? how would people live eat survive? where would the money come from? all this crap about forcing people to work its life unless your very lucky enough to have won the lottery

i go to work cos i have no other option really, my parents would go spastic and wouldnt let me sit on my arse and do nothing. and i would get bored out of my skull sitting round doing nothing watching tv. i was given a brain and i want to use it. i also want to have a house of my own a car and feel that i have done something with my life. rather than just living a crappy existence till i die.

There is a simple way to solve this and that is to give out vouchers rather than cash.

Your benefit would be given out in vouchers for;

food
child care
phone
petrol

any other essentials?

i agree

But not that many people want to live like that. So it's not going to come to the point where no one wants to work.

Why do you think that work is where your brain is best used? Most work is repetitive monkey actions where the brain isn't used at all. That's why we come on here, to get away from the monotony of our working processes.

If people think they'd be happier doing nothing, then i just don't mind. There's terrible pressure and stress from our working lives. And although it's better than being down a mine with a semi-conscious canary, this is not what i want from my life.

i actually enjoy my job and have to use my brain its certainly not monkey work. i dont really get stressed or pressurised except for deadlines.

perhaps you ought to find something you enjoy. thats not what you want from your life? what you would rather waste it sitting about doing nothing and generally being a drain on society?

Well rather than petrol you could give travel vouchers. I really don't understand why benefits are given as cash!?!??! It's way too open for abuse. If cash is required for a genuine use then it should be applied for seperately.

I would also like to see the food vouchers being specific so that they can't be spent on pot noodles! Cooking lessons available on how to prepare cheap food like spag bol, chilli, curry, casserole etc...

Most of us will be able to get decent jobs and therefore earn a decent wage and buy nice things.

Think about people with no skills, no education etc. The difference between the wage they can earn (minimum wage usually) and what they get on benefits is next to nothing.

In effect, they are getting out of bed and going to work each day in a crap job for a very small amount (the difference between minimum wage and benefits).

The higher wage you can earn in a job the more you will forego by choosing to not work.

its digraceful, the only person who i thought was responsible was that 13 year old with twins who still with his Girlfriend and having another one at the age of 21. These girls have no morals they should go to a HIV and AIDS clinic and get information about diseases. :nono:

I'd rather sit around and write and visit things and learn and read and talk to people.
I can possibly contribute to society outside of my pitiful taxes.

I work in my job because it's a charity and i want to help people. But if the government wanted to raise taxes in order to allow people to be happy and do what they want to do, then i'm all for it. If that costs me an extra £50 a year, then fine.

As a recent report has just shown, in real terms, wages for the lowest 25% have actually gone down in the last 40 years.

We have a major problem in this country, of not actually setting the sights of young women on the estates and in poor areas, above that of having a kid.

The benefit system is not the problem. Its an education and aspiring issue.

As a high tax payer I know that my taxes go on: Defence (a certain war), roads, NHS, Education. The amount that goes on the "scroungers" is too little for me to be concerned about.

so you think just because your going to be lazy arsed the government should pay you benefits so you can visit the world sit read talk etc? I on the other hand should go to work in order to pay for all the things i want to do in life? like visit other countries, meet new people? learn?

hang on i must have missed something? wheres the fairness in that?

i think everyone could contribute more to the world than taxes but its just not the world we live in sometimes.

Personally, i prefer to work and pay for things myself, but if other people don't want to for any number of reasons, then it's ok. I'm not my job. It's something i do despite myself.
The idea that having a baby thereby avoiding work is the easy option is laughable.

I don't think you should work. I'd rather you did whatever made you happy. If that's work, then fine. If not, i'd really prefer you lived happily than be forced into an endless cycle of crap. That also doesn't seem all that fair.

What would happen if everyone had that attitude?

Personally I think the dole should be available after 6 months unemployed but you should be forced to do comunity service in order to claim it.

We'd probably all be happy.
:)

I know that the system wouldn't work if everyone chose not to work, but that isn't the case. We have enough room to cater for what people want to do. If we gave up some of our defence budget, we could allow even more people to enjoy themselves.

I honestly cannot believe selfish attitudes like this really exist!
