Genuinely surprising how many on North Stand Grandad have seen her in concert. I'd have expected loads of 'Who?' or 'She's not exactly The Clash or The Specials' responses. Who'da thunk it?
Quite incredible especially since there hasn’t been any good music since Led Zeppelin ….apparently.

Or extreme levels of talent.
Meh.

I don't think huge sales and musical talent go follow each other. It is more about catching the zeitgeist of a time and/or focus what talent one has on making broad popular music.

Many highly talented musicians have missed their time and/or have chosen to create more niche music.

Equally some absolute shite has sold a. Lot of units.

Probably a different discussion though.

It’s only “shite” to you though. Those who buy it are obviously quite happy with it.

I bought this while fully recognizing that it was shite and very little talent was involved.

My point is that it is not as simple as extreme talent = extreme sales. There are many other factors involved.

Exactly. There’s a load of music stuff talked about on here that isn’t my thing. That doesn’t mean it’s shite … and I wouldn’t feel the need to say anything negative about it. It’s just not my thing… that’s all.

It’s possible to love the music from both The Clash and Taylor Swift. I’ve seen them both - and both would rank in my top 5 gigs I’ve been to.

I never challenged this, I challenged your “shite” comment. My point is people usually buy music, even novelty Star Trek songs, because it’s gives them some sort of enjoyment/entertainment/value.

If you can collect together more than 10 people who think Star Trekking is anything but shite I would be flabbergasted.

But I do take your point, my choice of word was poor.

ps This 60ish person loves Taylor Swift and still loves Clash. I’m not sure I would have loved TS back in the late 70s early 80s though when I was a hard rock/punk lover. 😎

…is visible to a mod, and, I’ve recently discovered, can be “undeleted” (yep, that’s the word used by Xenforo).
I thought it was amusing when I posted it….then self-awareness kicked in!
