Not that good in comp was he..
Any team that doesn't contain Ranjitsinhji cannot really be taken seriously. The bloke had a first class batting average of 56 - and this at a time when wickets were like bombsites and 30 was a decent average. He'd be a good candidate for an all-time world XI and certainly should be the first name on any Sussex team.

I agree that he's not the greatest but my thinking was that you have a side batting down to 9 and a pretty lethal attack, do you really need another batsman or bowler? What you want is someone who can make sure that all egos are pulling together and, like I said, he's the best captain I've ever seen.
