ITV sinking to another low, it's just bashing the police for the sake of it, I wonder if one day they will show some positive policing?

If they can find any. Try being a victim of assault, having crystal clear footage of the offenders, providing all this to the police along with a statement and then being told they are basically too busy to go and arrest them.

Try being burgled, being told to wait for officers to arrive with your front door kicked in overnight, and for them not to arrive for three days (after multiple phone calls chasing them). Then a five minute conversation where they tell you to make an appointment at the police station - in about three weeks time.

But they’ll happily sit on a speeding hotspot with their radar gun, because it drives revenue. They’ll happily dedicate thousands of man hours policing hate speech on Twitter.

Their policies and priorities are absolutely all over the place and my faith in the police “service” is at an all time low. And I’m not sure it will ever improve.

The kindest thing you can say about them is at least they aren’t the Met. They are completely incompetent and unfit for purpose of course, but most things are nowadays due to funding cuts, strange priorities in which crimes to investigate and some very dubious vetting and recruitment.

It's a shame all Met Old Bill are tarred with the same brush.
I know a few past and present and they are all passionate about the job, I've never had cause to meet them in a working environment but I reckon they would be professional and happy to put themselves on the line to uphold the law.

I agree on the speeding point.

By beating up the good old British Police Persons we just undermine them all, so the average lad on the street will be quick to draw a knife on them as they will hate them.
Who would want to be a copper?
Perhaps if the media could start on rebuilding the dum ass publics view on them, the country could rebuild it's self again on the crime front.
I personally feel most police people want to make a difference, your always going to get the bad or lazy ones slip through.

I'm sure we are all perfect in our profession's and have never put a foot wrong.
The Old Bill I know have all received various commendations for outstanding services and going above and beyond.
You really can't say that everyone one of them is a bad egg. Don't always believe what you read or hear on LBC.

It was a PCSO that was approached, not a police officer, according to the Guardian.

If you're not a response unit it's probably not a good idea to sit around in a marked squad response vehicle. IMO, PCSO's should be on foot patrol. Interacting with the public and local businesses is a large part of their role. Tone setting in areas likely to have disturbances.

They could have taken advantage of their car and driven round there but they have less powers than normal members of the public so if it did not make the shoplifters scatter, they'd have been on scene but not able to do anything, getting more abuse form the public for being "useless".

Their biggest mistake, given the definition of their role, was to not clear out of the area completely.

I did think that must have been a PCSO, but assumed they wouldn't be sat alone in a police car.

Any full copper would have been straight round there on the blues if an assault had been reported to them. These are PCSO's.

The police refusing to respond to a crime being committed because 'then theu'd have to deal with it' is a legitimate news story - a f***in' great big legitimate one!
ITV is in the business of broadcasting news, no? That is it's job, yes? - so why slate it when it does the job it's supposed to do properly!

They should have reported it correctly then. They failed to mention that it was a PCSO and not a police officer.
In fact they referred to him as a police officer. Which is incorrect.

FWIW The Lancing Co-Op has a permanent security chap on the door.

Grinstead Avenue by the Harvester the chap in the video said it took the Taxi 26 seconds to get there from where the Police car was to the Co-Op.

How do you know it was a PCSO? Just makes it ITV’s word against The Guardian doesn’t it?

PCSO should not be in a marked car if they have no powers. They’d be equally ineffective in a chase of a TWOCed car or stopping someone who was drunk getting behind the wheel.
