I don't like uninformed criticism of the police and hate Silky David Cameron's anti-public service approach.
But the decision to move the Leeds game to a Friday night is flawed for two reasons. It is a clear admission that the local force are not capable of policing such a game on a Saturday. Therefore, the idea of merging police authorities must be seriously considered if a large area has a police authority who don't consider themselves up to doing their job.
Secondly, is it such a good idea to move the game to a Friday night which will encourage Leeds fans (allegedly a problem although they seem not so bad nowadays after many away visits to Elland Rd.) to stay overnight?
Seems to me that the local police are admitting that they aren't up to doing the job. In which case, the sooner the Sussex / Kent /Surrey / Hants police authorities are merged the better. I do realise that Diddy Dave Cameron is cutting police numbers and I don't intend this to be a police bashing thread.

Wasn't the moving of the game more to do with Brighton/Sussex Uni enrolment weekend?

Cameron has the balls to tackle public debt and privileged pensions the UK cannot afford. Labour-led report proved the latter point.

Did TV have an influence in this?
When Leeds were down 20 months ago on a Saturday, not a hint of trouble.
Do ALL Leeds away Saturday games to resorts or nightlife cities get moved away from the Saturday, to discourage them making a weekend of it?

I don't know the answers to these questions, but someone here might.

I spoke to Sussex police today. I was told that the first they knew the game was being moved was when the Albion's secretary told them.

The university had given the club dates that they didn't want home games to happen on, and Leeds was one of them. They have an admissions day that day.

If the police want to move a game they need some agreement from both clubs and then need ratification from the safety committee (or whatever it is called) where the club, council and police etc all meet.

The only game the police requested to be an evening was Palace.

Why didn't the club state the reason behind the switch when they announced the changes? Would have saved a lot of confusion.

If I can be critical of the Club for just one minute ... this is yet another example of pathetic communications.

There are lots of people asking questions about a lot of things at the moment - transport arrangements, parking, ticketing arrangements, priority for away games, to name but four - and all we seem to be getting is a series of bland statements along the lines of "Details to be announced in due course".

They really should be doing better. It's three weeks until the first game at the Amex.

The way they are heading there is going to be quite a lot of information to digest within a relatively short space of time. Some of this might even slip under the radar if it's made public at a similar time to the unveiling of a big signing.

A bloke I work with is a hardcore Leeds fan & he said it was on police advice.I don't know where he found out from maybe the Leeds united website but he told me about the switch before it was posted on seagulls.co.uk.

Leeds posted a quote on their website from one of their officials, Harvey, the the police had moved the game.

At best it is crossed wires. At worst it is inflammatory since the 2000 or so Leeds fan who show up that night will be pre-programmed with "we'll show the rozzers they made a mistake in moving this game" rhetoric.

Glad I'm not the only one getting a little tired of the "in due course" line being spun.

I like to plan things. I like things sorted. As it stands, we've got a blue badge holder amongst our STH group, and we still don't have the first idea what the travel arrangements will be. It makes me wonder whether the plans are actually in place, or whether within a few short weeks of the stadium due to open they are STILL formulating their plans and policies.

I got the info about the police from Leeds sources. If wrong, my apologies to the OB.

it seems pretty cleared up, but if you think about it, it doesnt make sence for plod to move this game to Friday - they now have a couple of hundred fans staying in town for a Friday night out. "car parking" as cited on the Leeds site doesnt really wash, more will drive for an evening kick off than a Saturday afternoon, shirley, and there's the same allocation available for Leeds as for any other team.

I must be about the only person that doesn't really care WHY a match is moved just as long as there's plenty of warning so I can make sure I can make the new date ??

I'm afraid you seem to be right. I don't think they have the slightest idea how they will cope with crowds of 22000 not so much arriving together as trying to get away afterwards. There is very little closeby street parking; a tin-pot station which appears totally inadequate for long, crowded and more importantly, frequent, trains; park and ride schemes which often struggled at Withdean and... who knows?
It's all very well saying people can walk or cycle but the ground is hardly in the middle of a built-up area. I'm sure things will eventually sort themselves out but how many will have become totally disillusioned by then. No matter how keen a supporter you might be, are you really prepared to spend another two or three hours getting to and from the games?
As far I can see, there have been no definitive statements about how things will operate - and yes, people do like to plan in advance.

Whatever the reasoning behind the change of time / day I am sure the police are nervous about this fixture considering the s**t leeds fans suffered during one of their last visits. I am sure there will be some hardcore Leeds fans looking for retribution

Now we have a larger away fan capacity there is more chance that victims and sons can make the game (damn... I cannot believe it was that long ago....time speeds up as you get older!)

to be honest, i dont think they have a clue about how they are going to get people in and out of the stadium. and they never really have since day one
