Sussex By the sea

Don't Mention The War
hey people,

I was thinking, now we are about to begin our journey into Falmer soon, do we not think it is about time someone re-recorded sussex by the sea into a modern beat driven thumping tune for our lads to run out to, its a great theme but it seems a little dated now....Thoughts?

Why don't you please f*** off?! GOSBTS is fine as it is, god these bandwagoners are making me feel sick! :wozza:

Bandwagoners, i have been going to brighton since 1973 when i was 2 yrs old, you arrogant twat. People like you are always very brave online aren't you. Grow up mate. It is just a thread about people's thoughts on the matter.

The recording used at Withdean -- 1991, Royal Marines School of Music - sounds much worse than it ever actually was, obviously, because of the feeble PA system there.

But that recording is hardly the best in existence anyway. There are dozens available, some better, some far worse. I have a fair collection of SBTS recordings, including a 1995 one from the Royal Albert Hall with several hundred musicians. Stunning, fantastic impact.

For Falmer, it is essential to commission a fresh recording, agreed. In the original style, for sure, but throbbing with real power and emotional impact. Christ's Hospital or Coldstream Guards, just the best we can get down here to do the gig.

In one version, recorded in 1927 by the RAF Band, a single vocalist does the verses, with each chorus picked up by the crowd. That format would be fantastic with top quality recording gear. and sung at the correct speed. Once that got played out at Falmer, ramping up pre-match fan motivation and mass participation, we'd surely become unbeatable.

Thanks Gillivers, good adult informative post. It is amazing the amount of kids that just love throwing abuse at people they do not know. Rather pathetic.

Well if you've been to see us since 1973, you will know that GOSBTS is fine as it is. It will never change, what do you want a disco version of it?!

I would agree that one of the best version s is the one by The Band of The Royal Marines as opposed to their Scool of Music. My favourite version as I have said is by The Massed Band of The Brigade of Guards. I feel that the club should have a Military Band play it at the opening of Falmer preferably Royal Marines or Coldstream/Grenadier Guards

I've got a couple of interesting versions.

One by London Bobby and one by Alan Turner, both dating from around 1918 I think.

Which is nice

It was a suggestion for open debate. Some people have had sensible suggestions as an alternative, you just threw abuse at me. Very harsh, and we are meant to be Albion fans. You should save the abuse for the palace maybe. I was not suggesting a disco version at all.

the tune and tempo was good enough for our forbears when drilling at the Goldstone and going into battle in World War 1. If people could fight and die to it, then its class that my football team run out to it. What do you want some shit pop song like "glad all over"- makes me laugh people with no clue and no soul. Go and support a shit club like palace if you want a shit pop song and no history.

Ok I'm sorry for calling you a bandwagoner. But this aint a debate, its a no brainer. GOSBTS will stay as it is, because it fine as it is.

dont apologise he has insulted our forbears and our history. Would he ask that the scousers that nicked "you will never walk alone" from every other club that sung t change the tempo? No, so stick to your guns, those that went before us did and some of them died, whilst singing Sussex by the Sea. Its class and has history too

Thanks for the apology. I was not posting to upset people. Just wanted peoples views on it. Majority rules and all that. I have been an ardent Albion supporter all my life. I am off to potugal as well for pre season

It was not meant as an insult but I guess some always want to argue so I can do nothing about that, every line in history has a beginning you are taking it too much to heart

What exactly did you expect?

That everyone AGREES with your proposal to totally RAPE the signature tune of our football club and County?

You wanted 'open debate' and Kev told you to f*** off - you can't get much more open than that to be fair. You then called him an arrogant twat - again, pretty open.

All these over the top comments like totally rape. Ok ok I now concede then, other suggestions by me about the subject were ignored. Debate and abuse are 2 different things. If everything was commanded by history then we would all be getting nowhere in life. Far too harsh and far too much rhetoric. It's a song not a life and death, if you lot all wanted your history, I don't see many people wearing shirts with the original club badge.
