Could Steven Hilder really have walked around completely normally for the hours/days after he cut his cord knowing he was going to die so that nobody noticed?

Not sure I could do that.

Indeed, that's really scary shit. I wonder whether there is a suicide note that just hasn't been found yet. Otherwise he must have known the shit storm that would kick up.

I also can't believe that it took so long for the Police to make the forensic connection between him, the para cords and the scissors in his car.

I don't know enough about it to speculate, but is it possible he was trying to murder someone else and got his own parachute by mistake?

Failing that, I'd try bow and arrow.

I'd have thought it would be inordinately difficult to shoot yourself with a bow and arrow. Holding the bow the wrong way round and drawing it back with sufficient tension to propel the arrow into yourself sounds like an impossible task (but it would be amusing to watch). A crossbow would be easier.

If I was committing suicide, I'd like to do something fairly spectacular. Something involving a combine harvester would be good.

sometimes perhaps...
scenario....
a woman gets raped. rapist gets nicked and the whole thing goes to trial. at the trial, the judge, for whatever reason, lets the rapist off ( say on a technicality ). rapist walks free. woman cant live with the fact that the person she knows has raped her, has got off scott free and is walking the streets ready to strike again. the woman cant face the hurt and pain and prospect of meeting her attacker ever again ,so, the woman kills herself. is the woman a coward? or is the pain so much, that she'd rather pay the ultimate price?
i believe this scenario actually happened a few years back. dunno where or when, but it stuck in my mind anyway..
