Store bans staff wearing the Poppy.

Its not solely about the money, its about SHOWING you care by wearing a poppy, and bet a pound to a penny that "silly old lefty you" doesn't wear a poppy for reasons other than that you'd "lose it in ten minutes".

I've always thought that Nov 11th and the lead up is a very private thing; a time for quite thought and contemplation to remember friends, colleagues, family members who fought and maybe died on our behalf. I don't see there's any need to demonstrate this publicly unless you want to and I'm surprised that with an armed forces background you don't seem to understand this.

Was sharpening my chisels earlier - do you want to borrow them for the weekend?

As Bushy would say "you couldn't make it up"

Abused for given money to the Poppy Appeal

It's just about caring is it ? How very American. Little bit too politically correct for me to be expected to wear something, I'd rather do it the traditional English way of putting my money where my mouth and help people in need, but I respect your modern "lifestyle choice" of wearing a plastic heart on your sleeve.

I've never been one for badges, wristbands, ribbons etc.. One, I'd lose them very quickly and two I don't expect something in return for a charitable donation.

Perhaps you do, but that's obviously your choice.

do you have an armed forces background ? If not how are you qualified to comment on what I, who does have an armed forces background , should or shouldn't "understand" ? I've spoken to several of the lads who've been to afghanistan, including one who was blown up by an ied 3 weeks ago, and PUBLIC displays of support such as wooton bassett and help for heroes wristbands mean a hell of a lot to them,so do me a favour and poke your recently sharpened chisels up your arse.

There you go again, twisting words and squirming out of things just like you did with looney earlier on, I didn't abuse you for giving money, just for your phoney explanation as to why you don't wear a poppy, you give yourself away by alluding to "plastic hearts on your sleeve" , wering a poppy is the traditional english way, obviously a little too traditional and english for a "progressive patriot" like you.

Bushy, I think you should be wearing a special badge for getting out of Audenshaw alive mate, though rumour has it your trousers didn't make the journey home with you.:)

Lost your temper again I see, but you won't persuade not to hand over hard cash to armed forces charities and not feel the need to accept a token from them.

I find wearing a poppy helps ease the guilt of walking by all the people stood in town with tins and not giving them any money.

So what about the 5 shot dead in Afghanistan ?

We'll all be wearing poppies at work on Sunday. Sgt Matty Telford was based at the Army recruiting office in Grimsby for 3 years before being posted down to Aldershot last year as a RSM. He used to come into the store with the other recruiting sergeants during the lunchtime on an almost daily basis to buy their scoff. Guardsman Jimmy Major who was only 18 and from Cleethorpes also signed up at the Army recruiting office which is just around the corner from where we work.
