I’ve got a holiday abroad in six weeks and I’ve put my ST on the ticket exchange until I get back.
.

SNAP ..we are due to go to Barbados on Sept 1st ( delayed several times since April 2020) so we have given up the first 2 games as we dont want to catch Covid and lose the holiday, I didnt realise the ticket exchange was open so I will list our tickets there.

There were quite a few hurdles. I just jotted it all down and got on with arranging it all a couple of weeks before the hols. It looks more burdensome that it is. Second time around I’d find it a sinch.

PCR tests:
1. I arranged for a lab to send a courier to our hotel three days before leaving, he waited whilst we did the necessary, the next day we were texted and emailed negative results. The hotel kindly printed out anything I wanted for the flight.

[Turns out the hotel, part of a chain, carries out its own pcr tests for guests daily. I did call their Palma HQ beforehand to ask, but the customer services bloke got it wrong and said “no”].

2. I arranged test kits to be ready for us when we got home for the “Day 2 test”. Did that and I popped their boxes through dedicated letter box in Brighton. Just one of dozens of UK labs and I later spotted on NSC a guy who runs all that at Five Ways.

Useful…I’m ‘herding cats’ for our golf trip at the end of September at the moment, 12 of us including several with limited tech knowledge or seemingly ability to understand simple instructions :) My rep the other end has arranged for a nurse to visit the hotel to sort us out (ooer missus) in one go which makes things a lot easier. The hotel don’t do their own unfortunately even though it’s a big chain.

From what I’ve found so far the walk-in clinic at Gatwick does the cheapest pre and post trip PCRs but holding off booking for now as things may change. Also got a dry run beforehand with another trip before this one so can test the testers :)

Cannot wait to get a bit of sun.

There’s the option of putting ST on ticket exchange, but I’m not holding my breath that it will get sold. I think quite a few people will feel nervous about going back to the Amex.

I’m going to Barbados next February 2022, it will be the third time lucky! If it gets cancelled again….I’ll give up! Enjoy your holiday.

The Covid tests are a pain and not cheap.

A fit to fly test taken within 3 days of departure ( for Barbados must be done by a medical praticioner ) £89 each
Test on arrival ( paid by Barbados Govt )
3 day before return to UK fit to fly test and Day 2 on return both for £92 per person... it all adds up.

but after paying £4k for a holiday we dont want to catch it on the Mill Hill bus and lose the holiday....so stay safe it is.

Were your 'Day 2 Tests' through Randox? I've just been arranging ours for holiday in September in Crete. Apparently there are two places you can drop the tests off at in Brighton.

Yes.

I didn’t realise that on buying, as it was through one of the many online retailers/intermediaries.

I used the nearest to us drop off point near the Sainsburys in the ‘New England Quarter’ …. not exactly where they said it was. Dropped the boxes off last Wednesday afternoon, emailed results from the Northern Ireland lab the next day.

Here, there and everywhere
I am considered 'Clinically Extremely Vulnerable' after losing an eye to Ethmoid cancer three years ago. Then six months later having a 22mm tumour removed from my brain.
The drugs I have had to take in the last two and a half years have left me absolutely knackered.
I have had two jabs and my sons have set my phone up to gain entry to the Amex - hopefully they work coz there will be a long line behind me effing and jeffing if not.
I fully intend to watch every home game that I'm able to - masked up..

If you're in any way immuno-suppressed it would be worth taking an antibody test for your own peace of mind, as many on cancer treatment are finding the vaccines provide no immunity.
This is one of the main requests for further research on the ZOE covid app.

That's the one I was looking at - one of my sons lives in New England Road.

I was using street view on Google maps yesterday to try and find where they were - without success!! LOL! Looks like it'll be a bit of a mystery tour then!

Second this….daughter is working as a research nurse on a Stage 1 clinical trial with cancer patients and has to be extremely careful due to the lack of immunity many of the (vaccinated) patients have.

I just want to watch my local football team.

If it's ok to go to packed indoor gigs, night clubs, theatre, cinema, public transport, Reading festival, Burnley away, holiday to Ibiza why can't we get into the Amex.

Barber has got this wrong, but I'll leave you with some of his wisdom, not mad at all;

Once inside the Amex

We advise to take care when passing others in seating areas, turn your back when you pass fellow supporters and avoid passing face-to-face.

Supporters are strongly advised to avoid hugs, handshakes and high fives, and ensure regular hand sanitisation.

I'll tell you what's even more boring than having to live with COVID and the precautions we have to take, it's the people moaning about it.

Like a Brexiteer to a remainer, it's happening, get used to it and get on with it.

Its not a matter of getting on with it.

Its a stupid and unrealistic rule. Its a game of football with a lot of people there - how much difference do you realistically think it will make to do that even if it could be achieved?

I'm fed up up with the club in a lot of ways at the moment. But this pedantic crap from Barber (whilst messing up all the parking arrangements and insisting on transfer charges for season tickets) is really winding me up.

If you're that concerned - don't go. It really is that simple.

There's a triangular shaped predestrian open space on the north side of Sinclair Walk (between Fleet Street and the southern terminus of New England Street).

The 'Randox' letterbox is on the east side of that open space, with a temporary sign above it.

Plus a note NOT TO RING THE BELL.

Certainly this is the situation with my mrs, 2 jabs but no antibodies . In her case not sure if it was the chemo or the fact that her T cells were genetically altered via CAR-T treatment.

Thank you … that’s really helpful 👍

I did see some mention on the Randox website about not ringing the bell 😂

Not exactly free-and-legal-parking friendly at that drop off.

Quite surprised by the tone of the sign in the club shop on Saturday, tbh.... (But totally reasonable)

Not knowing too much about cancer treatment, but I am aware that the reason for the lack of immune response to the vaccine is the steroids suppressing the immune system allowing the chemo to do it's job.

Can it not be cycled in (depending on how aggressive the cancer is) to allow a small gap in the chemo to allow their immune system to recover enough for a response to the vaccine for each dose?
