WHAT??? reid was wank today, you must be the person who nominated him MOM.

2 questions

Did you go to Withdean today?
Is your real name Stevie Wonder?

Paul Reid was head and shoulders above every other player on our side and deserved the MOM, incidentally this is one of the first times that I have agreed with the sponsors.

Well I'm afraid thats just wrong - If you are asked to hold in midfield that means you don't bomb forward when you get the opportunity, just as a player asked to play at right back doesn't play like a winger. We have seen him play one game and by the posts from Falkirk fans I read, the position he played today doesn't really complement his full potential.

What kinda midfielder player are you expecting ?

I saw him today and he is a good player but if your expecting a marauding attacking midfielder, I really think your going to be disappointed.

I dont know his scoring ratio, but I would hope its decent, he has a pedigree that would suggest that he has scored a few goals.

But to suggest on his first game, Wilkins has somehow inhibited his play, is unlikely.

It will take quite while for him to gel in to the side, but with what I saw today. he looks good on the ball, his passing is very fluid. He seems to wants the ball all the time, hopefully he will show that he has a shot on him. Seems to me that he COULD be the captain, if Hammond does decide to move on...

Racist and blindist, I was at Withdean and Reid was pretty poor. Just my opinion though.

When in possession he looked very calm and never panicked. Shame the defence felt it necessary to launch the ball over his (and the rest of the midfield's) heads for the majority of the game. This is the 'total football' he was promised when he arrived!

When we got it down on the floor and played quickly we looked really good...for a few seconds.

I agree with most of that, but I thought in spells the play was decent.

But there will be times when a longer ball is needed or is forced but I think overall Wilkins definately encourages a good quality passing game.

I think he is more of a creative midfielder than was shown by his position yesterday, and that doesn't mean I expect lots of goals from him btw. I just think its wrong that hes been dismissed as another Bertin type player again.

Personally I was impressed with Thomson.

He showed good passing skills and kept the ball moving, he also established our Midfield more then usual (normally the midfield appears non existant). I do, however, agree about this defensive thing. We appear to be quite defensive at the moment which does slightly worry me. With corners or free kicks we have basically every man back! Surely we're good enough that we don't need 11 men defending? You can't be offside in your own half so push a fast player Cox/Robinson etc who doesn't have much height out towards the half way line. This could mean that we have a better chance to break away but alternatively it could push them back a bit.

I think I understand why he doesn't want to push Cox/Robinson up. He is very conscious of conceding, when we concede the atmosphere gets even worse and the team get down on themselves. I think he might be tempted to push a slower player up to the half way line (someone strong) to hold on to the ball until the cavalry as it were arrive, but this means they have a chance to get back. We would have so many more shots if we trained Cox/Robinson to fill that role.

I wasn't impressed with Reid personally. I think our Midfield often appears non-existant and this is a real problem. He's not a particularly creative player or defensive he's just a sort of flat-four midfielder and lacks drive I think, though he has control.

My first impressions of Thomson are that he is solid, strong, calm and a good passer of the ball.

Unfortunately all these qualities will mean that he is 'shit' on NSC within 3 weeks, as half of the MORONS on here don't understand the FIRST THING about the game.

Within these pages only 'flair' midfielders count. Makelele would be slated by half of the gimps on here. 'f***ing Claude was shit again today - never noticed him do anything at all, etc, etc'

Flair is brilliant, of course it is, but there is such a thing as balance.

Bertin was a decent player so you shouldnt be so disappointed.

Creative, not so sure, he probably hasnt got a trick in his locker and is unlikely to outskill an opponent as long as he is with us.

He will take care of the ball and keep the ball moving , whilst putting in a decent workrate to defend to and I am sure will nick a few goals.

He looks like he has many qualities but maybe not the ones your hoping for.

Well I think that everyone has acknowledges his qualities and some are a wee bit disappointed that he wasnt soemthing other than what you say solid and unspectacular.

Fish out of water at the moment. I would think the fans could go some way to helping him feel confident and comfortable here.

People, how was your first day at every new school - did you get top marks and perform an excellent 100% on that day?

I thought Thomson was solid but unspectacular.

I also thought that the issue was that him and Reid were too similar in style - defensive and reluctant to bomb on. I think things will change when the midfield pairing is Hammond and Thomson.

Also, I know a player's performance is judged by opinions rather than fact, but, while I don't think Paul Reid had a bad game - far from it, for me, he was - how shall I put it - our 11th best player on the field.
