He was deep today but thats not his fault as he was following tactics. He moved the ball well throughout, was strong in the tackle and suprisingly good in the air for his height. He's looks a quality signing and was the best midfielder on the park yesterday.

You're too sensitive badger. No-one mentioned you. I'm referring to those expressing their dissappointment on this thread that Steven Thomson is, in fact Steven Thomson, and not Georgi Kinkladze.

The Large One;2267787. I also thought that the issue was that him and Reid were too similar in style - Also said:
If the other 10 had played better than Reid we would have won by about 10 goals as he was by far the best player on the Albion side followed by El Abd. IMHO

El-Abd had a decent game, it's true, and was for me our best defender. Reid was solid, but offered little going forwards. Too many times he was looking to pass the ball back or sideways (sounds like a member of the Wilkins family), and not overly positive in his general play.

He was OK, but to say Reid was 'far better' than everyone else - no, not for me.

2 questions

Did you go to Withdean today?
Is your real name Stevie Wonder?

Paul Reid was head and shoulders above every other player on our side and deserved the MOM, incidentally this is one of the first times that I have agreed with the sponsors.

yep, in J block

no

my problem with thomson is that i dont see what he's going to add to our squad, we need creativity and flair in midfield- dont think hes' going to provide that- but like i said, not going to judge him on that performance alone.

in my view we played no better yesterday than we did against mansfield, luckily for us huddersfield didnt take their chances.....

it just cemented my view that there is no way we'll make the play offs this season.

and sorry Mr Bensgrandad but i thought reid was rubbish, would have given MOM to el-abd.

To play constructive creative football we have first and foremost to have the ball and then be able to make simple passes either forward backwards or sideways as the situation dictates. In this respect he did the job that was expected of him. Once he gets used to playing with the others he will, I am sure, start pushing more balls through the middle for Forster.

Our problem yesterday was as against Mansfield everybody expected Forster to score and nobody else took control and looked like scoring, apart obviously from Elphicks header. I thought that Thomson and Reid played well together and would expect that to continue with the addition of Hammond when he is back to form a formidable midfield with either Martot or Cox being the wide man on the left.

I believe that Thomson will fill the void that we have had since Chippy left..

He will add creativity once Hammond returns. The position he played in yesterday didn't allow him to flourish with inventive through-balls, or burst into the box for that matter. Just wait for him and Hammond to pair up before you judge his creativity.

Bertin was a decent player so you shouldnt be so disappointed.

Creative, not so sure, he probably hasnt got a trick in his locker and is unlikely to outskill an opponent as long as he is with us.

He will take care of the ball and keep the ball moving , whilst putting in a decent workrate to defend to and I am sure will nick a few goals.

He looks like he has many qualities but maybe not the ones your hoping for.

Well . . . I never said I was disappointed and you don't need skills to be creative ??? - he's a good passer and reads the game well - that will give creativity

I guess we are not a million miles away from each other as I too, recognise that being a very good tidy player is a skill.

But a 'creative player' is an emotive phrase.

Thomson is not the normal creative player as we would hope.
