i thought he had a decent game

kept wanting the ball and offering people options, ticked things over in the midfield and added a bit of class at times

very promising signing

Precisely, Wilkins put him in a position where we couldn't see his "box to box" credentials.

He looks a quality mid fielder, takes care of the ball, but cant see him as a marauding box to box midfielder, was he meant to be that ??

at home
slightly concerned as I was expecting a creative midfielder and got a Bertin/Ocallahan "sit in front of the back four" type player

Thought he did well though....seems quite a tidy little player, but not one to excite me ,,,Yet!

O'Callaghan was always an attacking player but was consistently played by Wilkins as a defensive player, seems Thomson will be used in the same way.

Gotta disagree there.

O'Callaghan never had the physicality of an attacking midfielder.

You and me could of beaten him over 20 yards !!!!

He was an arrogant midfielder and a great minipulator of the football.

But not a attacking player as we understand it.

looked quite small to me, smaller than i thought, but looked a decent player with good experience, its only 90mins tho, so lets not jump to conclusions too quickly!

Seemed to bark orders alot too which is good!

It was a steady if unspectacular debut. He looked competent enough and his CV suggests he will be a good player once he settles in.

Well given that he played up front for Port Vale and Cork and then moved into attacking midfield for a few months at Cork and Ipswich, I would have thought he considered himself an attacking player. I dont think he really got a chance to show it here when he was playing with Hammond.

Oh and I would struggle to even beat Butters over 20 yards!! I understand your point though.
