Excellent.

Stephen Fry summed it up for me in his point about the Nazarine carpenter. Most catholics I know try and live their lives according to how they think Jesus would have. The established church appears to ignore that.

I also know many many people who have had their lives hugely changed for the better through involvement in the Catholic Church. Doesn't excuse what has gone on, but is it necessary to tar the whole doctrine, organisation and its members?

Er.....yes, equally I know many people (including myself) who's lives have been made the better by rejecting this medieval rubbish, ditto there are plenty of nasty people who also reject the church. Its the blatent denial that annoys me the most, as Catholics though they will probably forgive themselves anyway.

Its almost like you can ONLY become a nicer person in the churches eyes by joining their throng, that I find offensive and bluntly just a bit 'weird' I'm afraid

Stephen Fry is a god (if such thingswere real:D) up there with the likes of Lord Gus Poyet of Brighton.

I consider myself strong minded, and strong willed, but I would do or believe anything Stephen Fry told me (unless it involved dropping my pants). The man is a legend.

By the way, does anyone know when this debate took pace?

A remarkable speech by a remarkable man.

It's also refreshing to see a 20 minute oration without a soundbite, scripted jokes or any hint of the dumbing down we get with Brown, Cameron and the rest of their party goons..

When will the 'average Catholic' realise that the people at the head of their church, the people who are supposed to guide them, a bunch of complete morons (and that is being very polite).

When will the average outside critic realise within the church there are like in society many and varied opinions amongst the clergy?

The more I read from people outside the church the more I realise they are completely clueless as to its make up.

There's cardinals out there who are very, very liberal in their views, just as their are those who are very conservative.

As an example, there's plenty of clergy who don't share the Pope's view on condoms, with even nuns in Africa handing them out.

I guess ignorance can be bliss to the knockers who jump on media snippets as their only views of the church.

Top speech.

I love how the camera focuses on a very awkward looking Ann Widdecombe as Fry talks about abstinence being unnatural in the 21st century.

Think I'm gonna have to look up Widdecombe's own speech in this debate now, just for a laugh
