It was as bad a cock up by Steele as the Sanchez one was against Palace last season. That game basically sealed his departure from the club as RdZ never trusted him again. Be interesting to see if the same happens with Steele.
Didn’t Sanchez get picked for Fulham the following week? It was at this very stage last year that Steele had a tidy game v Stoke and became rhe preferred keeper from then on.

It won't. Sanchez was dropped because his form dropped off but also because he was turning up late at training and generally being a dick. It's no surprise Chelsea now want to bin him off now.

Steele lost this game for us twice over, but he's got plenty of credit in the bank and is a fantastic professional who would run through walls for the manager. Think about how patient he's been. Not a bad word in the press from him all the while he was understudy to Sanchez or seeing the club but Bart.

I agree with most of this, he is an outstanding professional. I also have no issue with him playing as it’s the FA Cup and he should be the number two cup keeper.

But, for Fulham and Roma it has to be Bart.

I think the problem at the moment is neither Steele or Verbruggen are good enough. Hopefully in the summer we can spend some cash and get an upgrade on both.

I wish this advice had been taken on about a year ago when the best young goalkeeper I ever seen at the club was going through a rough patch.
He’s going through a rougher patch now, but with more money in his pocket.

Consistency comes with minutes. Confidence comes with minutes, building relationships with team mates comes with minutes.

Rotation of goal keepers has never worked and never will do.

Our lack of clean sheets prove it doesn’t work. It’s not helping either of them.

RDZ has to accept it’s not working and address it. I’m not sure he’s the type of guy that will admit it’s not working though and that’s to our detriment.

Or we can give Verbruggen a run? He’s had no more than 2 consecutive games all season.

Can’t be that bad. He’s had 4 full caps for Holland over the last 22 months.

Constant rotation must be hard work for the defenders as well not knowing who’s behind them and supposedly commanding the box.

Yes let’s. Let’s be like every other club in world football and have an established number one. And let that number one be the Dutch international goalkeeper who could be our goalkeeper for a decade.

Steele is done.

So you're saying Bart never makes mistakes? Or you just want to pick on Steele when he makes them?

The thing I think we are forgetting here is that we are supposed to be an attacking team. Score loads and let a few in. We let one in but failed to score.

For me it is at the other end of the pitch that we are lacking.

I don’t really understand the ‘rotating keepers doesn’t work’ argument. They play two games each and the games come so thick and fast that each keeper is playing regularly. I think the problem is the quality of the keepers, not the rotation.

If you compare the quality of our goalkeepers in their position compared to the quality of players like Mitoma / Welbeck / Gilmour etc in their position, then they are just nowhere near the same level. Virtually all of our attacking options would walk into a Big 6 side, our keepers are nowhere near.

Game of opinions but I thought he was fine apart from the error. I guess what gets me is that he was a key player in our highest ever finish in the league and some won’t give him the slightest bit of credit for that. Really poor
He played less than Sanchez did… but I don’t remember Sanchez getting much credit for that finish. Also, all of his goalkeeping statistics were worse, including goals conceded per game, saves, crosses claimed etc, all except the passing with his feet.

The same thing is happening this year, just with Bart as the second option who, again, has better stats than Steele in all keeping departments.

This isn’t revisionism, it’s fact. And 5 minutes on stat websites will tell you that, even if your eyes won’t.

Have I missed the threads attacking JPVH for Sunday league defending and Pervis for being easily outmuscled and out thought for the first goal or are we only blaming keepers?
