If you’re going to do this you can swap Van Hecke’s name for Webster then. Really poor positioning.
I thought once again JPvH was not at his best tonight. If we had the players perhaps Veltman and Dunk are the answer.

Good save by Steele in the first half, when we decided to let their player have a free shot.

Over the last few games we'd have been better off with Sanchez.
Obviously Steele brings something to our game on the ball but he simply doesn't make enough saves.

Did our overall game, results and making Europe improve with Steele over Sanchez?

I also thought there was a common criticism of Sanchez “Why doesn’t he pull off exceptional saves? Every decent attempt seems to result in a goal.”

Our record was pretty much identical in terms of points per game and win percentage last season between Sanchez and Steele. Our goal scoring went up under Steele but the amount we conceded went up by almost the same amount. Both keepers kept 6 clean sheets, both saved 1 penalty each and Steele had the assist against Brentford.

Sanchez
Pld 23 W 11 D 5 L 7 For 41 A 30 Pts 38

Steele
Pld 15 W 7 D 3 L 5 For 31 A 23 Pts 24

Pts Per Game
Sanchez 1.65 v Steele 1.6

Goals for
Sanchez 1.7 v Steele 2.06

Goals Against
Sanchez 1.3 v Steele 1.6

Going away from comparing the overall team record, Steele comes out slightly on top in the individual stats. (taken from the PL stats site)

Saves per match
Sanchez 2.09 vs Steele 2.47

Saves success
Sanchez 61.54 vs Steele 61.67

Pass completion %
Sanchez 74.74 vs Steele 87.96

Aerial Battles won
Sanchez 7 vs Steele 1

Own goals
Sanchez 0 vs Steele 1

Errors Leading to goal
Sanchez 1 vs Steele 0

Apologies I missed that.

On the day then no I don’t think the others were okay, Estupinan and Veltman had very bad games by their standards.

But, this thread was about Webster and Steele over the longer term, I don’t think they are playing at the level we need for where we are. Webster has had a difficult start to the season and the game on Saturday reinforced my view he’s not at the level we need, especially having watched the goals back. The ‘others’ you mention have an awful lot more credit in the bank to excuse a poor performance. I would certainly have JPVH ahead of Webster.

Steele is maybe a bit of a harsher call but I just don’t think he’s of the standard we need going forward. As I said on an earlier post today if you watch the goals back from Saturday 2/3 of them are just very average goalkeeping.
Funny isn’t it. I don’t think JPVH has anywhere close to the credit in the bank that Webster does and we seem to concede a lot of goals when he plays. And everyone knows Webster takes a good 5-6 games to get up to speed when he comes back from injuries. Add that to the fact we’re missing a proper shield and Dunk’s not had a great start to the season, and it’s unsurprising he’s not been at his best.

Re Steele I’ve just accepted that RDZ wants him in the team. I don’t personally - I lack confidence in us defensively when he’s there - but it’s not my call so 🤷‍♂️

I agree, but it seems unlikely that Webbo will get that run of games under RDZ. I just don’t think he is the manager’s type of player, but by playing swapsy with Webbo and Van Hecke, I don’t think RDZ will get the best out of either player. Anyway, NSC has to have a whipping boy and that dubious honour belongs to Adam at the moment. Unless he gets a settled run in the team, I can see him moving on to pastures new before long. There is no point in keeping him for back up. It won’t suit him or RDZ.

Having now seen the goal from yesterday I’m sorry to say Webster is absolutely to blame. His body positioning was all wrong and he was a step or two away from where he should be to clear the ball.

Maybe it’s confidence but he is a liability at present.

No blame for Steele whatsoever yesterday.

I don’t like singling out players but the amount of goals we are conceding needs to be addressed.

Steele might be good with ball at his feet but the amount of shots he concedes as a percentage of shots faced is ridiculous. I can’t think of any truly exceptional saves he’s made this season.

Webster is just out of form, two goals today he failed to block shots and that shoes a defender just a bit off it. Our two league defeats in which we have conceded 8 goals have come with him starting.

Ultimately today comes down to the wrong team selection but that very much includes picking these two.
I don't know if you've seen RDZ's recent comments about Steele but I'd brace yourself for disappointment if I were you

I’ve seen enough. An absolutely golden chance to make the semi finals this season literally thrown away by Steele.

It’s not just the goal, it’s the fact going behind early changes our whole game plan. Wolves can just sit behind the ball.

This goalkeeper rotation is nonsense, there’s a reason no other club has ever done it.
