Stand up for poppies

THE POPPY IS THE BIGGEST SYMBOL FOR PEACE I CAN THINK OF,WHEN WE REMEMBER ALL THOSE THAT FELL FROM BOTH SIDES WHY WOULD WE WANT TO GO TO WAR AGAIN.

On radio Sussex this morning it was reported that if England wear poppies on their match kits the ref has instructions from fifa to abandon the match :censored:

As much as I agree with this, and I do before anyone starts flaming, I was listening to someone on TV the other day who pointed out that if FIFA allow England to do this then what is to stop Iran from having "Allah bless our holy martyrs" or some such gubbins on theirs.

Just made me think a little about how inflammatory this would be.

I have mixed emotions over this issue. But, my general feeling is that a mountain has been made out of a mole hill. In my opinion Hillian1 is absolutely correct.

But, I do think the FA have played this all wrong. By getting the sports minister to write to FIFA all they have done is make the issue a political one, which actually backs up FIFA's point.

I think a fair middle ground could have been found very early on, without the need for an argument that makes all sides look, quite frankly, amateur. The best example I can think of is allowing the players to wear the poppy on their anthem jackets.

Do I think the players should be allowed to wear poppies, yes. I just think the entire issue could have been handled a lot better by all sides involved.

I kind of see where they're coming from. But poppies are solely about remembering those who lost their lives during conflict.
They don't promote anything and they're not specific to a religion or belief. They're SOLELY about rememberance.
I don't see what the difference between wearing a poppy and wearing a black armband is?

Ahem, the RED poppy is not a symbol of peace. It says I remember those fallen on our side and am not against war. The WHITE poppy says you're against ALL war and remember those fallen on both sides, yes that includes civilians. I'll be wearing the white thanks.

Its a peace symbol to me because it DOES remind me of all that fell on both sides and civilians, and makes me never want to see my family go through what my parents did!
Understand your point but the i said biggest symbol that i could think of.

I think it's initial aim was to encompass all, but today it represents British soldiers only.
