It's between Strauss and Cavendish for me, with Twaddle, Ennis and Button after them, and I would've had Wiggins in there too.

And I think Strauss deserves for leadership as much as individual performance

The Manx Missile all the way, Cav is one of the best sportsman we have had in years, the way he dominated sprinting against the best sprinters in the world far out does anyone else in the selections.

As for sports personality, well he has a strange and grumpy interview style at times that must be born from his competitivness.

If it was actually about PERSONALITY, like the award suggests, it HAS to be Jimmy Bullard.

But as its actually about what you have achieved in the year, it has to be someone else.

I would take Button out as he had the car. Strauss, Giggs had to rely on their team mates. Murray wasnt number One in the World and didnt win a Grand Slam. Cavendish didnt win the Tour de France.

Tweddle, Haye, Ennis, Daley and Idowu all got to the top relying on their ability. It has to be one of them (in my opinion like).

Cavindish would find it very hard to win the Tour as he is a sprinter, its a bit like saying Guy Butters cannot win player of the year because he hasn't scored enough goals.

I am sure the public at lardge do not know what an achievment Cav has accomplised at such a young age. Although you could dismiss him on the grounds that he would not have done this without the support of his team mates.

Is Button in the running for the Monaco SPOTY too?

Button is the richest british sportsman under 30 and has lived as a tax exile for the last 9 years so I guess he must qualify for some dual citizenship.

If he wants to wrap himself in the Union Jack he can start paying his taxes here like the rest of us................even the bankers paid UK tax.

What a selfish pig.

Button deserves it, no contest.

And for those think he was just handed a great car to drive I think he might have had some say in the development of that car. He also stuck with Brawn during the dark days and deserves some credit.

Personally, I also find the father-son dynamic there quite touching, he seems a lot warmer than Hamilton, albeit not as good a driver.

In my opinion Wiggins should be in ahead of Cavendish, but Button aside, that is a weak list, so I will have to go for him.
I agree Wiggins should have been in the list, but Cavendish definitely deserves to be there. I would rate his achievements this year - not just 6 tour de France stage wins but a whole load of other victories as well - well above that of Button so Cavendish gets my vote.

The year for cycling was last year. Button will win, Strauss will be second and - morally - Phil Taylor should be third (at least he would be if PDC was shown on BBC).

Don't think that was very clear - I meant Cav would get my vote...

TBH I don't think Wiggins does deserve to be there, and I'm a big fan.

He did brilliantly at Le Tour, but at the end of the day came fourth.
This from a multiple world/olympic/world record champion.
That fourth place just doesn't quite stack up.

Yeah but he's very much been a specialist up until now, and it was a real surprise to see him suddenly throw himself onto this stage. 4th place in le tour is massive, and seeing him scare the shit out of Armstrong on Ventoux was excellent.

The yearS for cycling began last year.
The Sky pro road team kicks off in a couple of months.
The track team begin preparing for 2012 in earnest, next season.

Then 2012, the velodrome will be the 'hot' ticket with GB golds galore.

Quite why something we are total world beaters at, should have a line drawn under it, after 12 months, is a little puzzling.

Forget Daley actually. I want ENNIS

She's like a GOOD Kelly Sotherton.

Like a GOOD Kelly Sotherton?

Is Sotherton's record of Commonwealth GOLD, Olympic Bronze, World Championship Silver [and bronze], and European Silver [twice], not 'good' then?

Its 'SPORTS Personality of the Year'.

Don't get me wrong, Taylor is awesome at what he does, and ought to pip O'Sullivan to the 'PUB GAMES Personality of the Year' award.
