Not only are there daily issue on there line, but there also rude and unhelpful twats.

I booked a ticket for the 15th a month return, well something has come up and i can go today now, me and my partner are expecting our first child together and i was not going to be able to make the scan on the 14th due to a hospital appointment that the NHS has brought forward this morning to today for me. Well i have rang Southern to see if they can alter my ticket as i have not picked it up yet as it is still waiting to be collected from the station, they simply said No, so i went down there instead and spoke to the man in the ticket office that also said No. I then spoke to a ticket officer on the platform and he told me to print my ticket of and risk it and the worst that will happen is il be made to buy a single, as il have a valid return when i come back.

I dont have alot of money to my name until Friday, so spending another amount on fair is going to screw me of royally for food money.

Why cant the people on the phone just alter the ticket its been paid for the money has come out my account, its not hard. Im proper pissed off. The guy at the ticket of was proper rude :wanker:

were did i say its there fault, i said i booked the ticket it does actually say that tickets on the southern rail site can be amended before they are used.

Its not hard being a decent human being its at no extra cost to them, im still using the tickets just going 2 day ahead of what i want to, i would have booked for today but i have to have this appointment there is no way i can miss it really, and naturally i want to be there for the baby scan. I just dont see the hardship altering a ticket that will still cost exactly the same price.

I agree that Southern Rail are pretty terrible, but in this instance I don't think it's fair to criticise them. They can't just change the system on the basis of one person

I kind of sympathise, we seem to live in a world now of revenue protection, admin charges and pointing to small print rather than trying to help customers out.
I think Customer Services is a mis nomer in most instances.

You said you didn't have any money to your name until Friday, you should be ok to buy a ticket tomorrow and not expect the money to leave your account until Friday.

I need to go today the baby scan is tomorrow i have my hospital appointment at 2pm then i was going straight to the station to get the train down, i also cant do the rainy day thing as the southern rail man told me to print my ticket and risk it, so i did print it, i was not expecting to be going at 10am today the the hospital called and said they had a cancellation i can go in at 2pm, the thing is i would have normaly changed this scan at the hospital but i simply cant i have to have it, hense why i booked for the 15th as the scan was supposed to be at 4pm on the 14th i took all my paper work to the station showing this, i was not rude.

He did not wont mention the rainy day thing said i would just have to buy a new tickt

It sounds like you were given pretty poor advice by Southern. 'Just print it and risk it' doesn't sound like an acceptable procedure to me. Their staff should at least know the Ts & Cs of the tickets that they offer. If you kick up a fuss with Southern, you may get something back from them.

I'm with you. Regardless of any offer/discount etc, they are still getting your business and things change in life, so why can't they just change the date? It takes very, very little effort and it used to be called "customer service".

Even though you have printed your ticket, it is still unused. You should be able to simply show it at the station for a refund. I have certainly done that in the past with unused tickets.

Possibly because the price he paid is reliant on when the ticket is used.
