Southern Railway says RMT must accept offer aimed at averting strikes by Thursday, or it will terminate conductors' contracts
Sack them all and bus them in from Poland or somewhere. Cheaper and will work in all weathers.
The twitter backlash is hilarious. How on earth did someone on mega bucks think this PR attempt was going to be good?! Clueless.
or just run DOO without guards/train managers? and blame the unions along the way?
That would work on parts of the network that have the DOO infrastructure.
Take sat eve. No train crew available so the driver drives to Littlehampton but because there is no guard passengers cant get taken home and there is all sorts of **** buggery going on at HH.
So either DOO for all and make sure that every station is capable. And the unions allow trains to run without a guard on DOO routes thus avoiding cancellations on London to Brighton.
Southern aren't going to be making those changes needed, but still want to run it on allSo either DOO for all and make sure that every station is capable.
The RMT has agreed to this, but wan't the guarantee of a 2nd critical safety trained member of staff on board. And the unions allow trains to run without a guard on DOO routes thus avoiding cancellations on London to Brighton.
good. Southern have issued an ultimatum (which never helps relations), RMT have said they cant talk with pre-conditions (which have nothing to do with this dispute). the silly dance is near the end and they'll have talks in a couple of days.
i hoped, though on re-reading it may be that the union have taken a obstructive line. why cant they just agree to a sensible amount of DOO if everything tell us this damn thing is going to be pushed through? why strike and disrupt the public for no purpose?

I know and really they should so all this nonsense can be put to bed once and for all.Two problems there.

At long last somebody stating the obvious you are not doing your job so in breach of contract and we will terminate your contract. should have happened ages ago.
Nice.
I can see no justification for a strike. May be old fashioned but if you dont like the way your employers operate leave and get a new job with somebody you approve of. Others may have other opinions if they wish.
