There is no recovery tactic. She will decide when I'm forgiven.

This.

It doesn't matter what I say, or what I do, the situation is completely irretrievable until she decides when she's had the hump for long enough. This can range from anything between 2 hours and 6 days, and there is no way of knowing when she will emerge from said humpage. So after an initial apology, I retire to a safe distance and continue with my life until normal service is resumed.

Another on in the 'she will decide when forgiven' camp.

Usually will try a bunch of flowers the next day to which I will get the 'Oh thanks they are lovely, you weren't THAT in the bad books'

Or, about 7-8 months ago we had a massive argument about something I won't go into as it will bore you, but she would bring this up time and time again and give me untold amounts of grief. Then, a month ago she does the same thing and when I mentioned the grief I had got the only response was 'Well, maybe I see it from your side now but I am still not happy'.

Women are f***ing nuts

These are the strange rules.

THEY can bring up any petty grievance no matter how tiny or how long ago and attempt to use it to counter any argument, however irrelevant the current gripe is to the original one was.

YOU cannot (but you wouldn't anyway as it makes no sense).

It's at this point that I realise I'm not going to get anywhere and employ the "ignore and leave to sulk until she's bored of it" tactic, which always works.

Hope and pray she gives you the silent treatment. I've been married for 33 years and have two grown up daughters........I live for the silent treatment:down:

So so true.

Another that has worked on the odd occasion is to take myself to the sofa to sleep at night.

Then she comes in all 'what's wrong?' and I just mention that I have had enough of her issues. It completely confuses her as in her mind she is the only one that can send me to the sofa or be angry.

Good tactic but can only be used on the very odd occasion.

Whatever you do, don't go on social media asking for advice. If she finds out you've done that, then God help you!

Brighton factually.....
what's your go-to way or method of saying sorry?

(Just to clarify I've been a bit more "tedious" than usual  I'm still allowed in the house)

Ha...

There is no rhyme or reason or knowing what is the correct procedure when women are concerned regarding moods.....

My "better" half can range from a few hours or weeks.....

Even when I know I am right, and she "thinks" she is right she will not back down, just to keep the peace and a quite life I apologies not that it ever makes any bloody difference.....

On the upside she tends to sulk in the bedroom, leaving me to ancient aliens or any other shit that might be on the box.

Spot on.
Also see 'saying one thing and meaning the complete opposite' stuff.
