So what would make NSC better?

I know it's been discussed a million times and everyone always says leave the football and off-topic threads together but I'd personally like to at least trial split forums.

The 'New Posts' option at the top of the screen allows you to see the latest topics in every forum so you wouldn't even have to navigate between the two forums.

Off Topic is great for those who are on here during the day whilst at work or whatever but I reckon there's a lot of people who don't post regularly, who don't care much about the off topic chat and just want too see whats going on with the Albion.

I kinda feel I've just wasted my time typing that though because everyone always says they like it lumped together!

I don't agree with having public polls only rather than private polls. In some cases someone might not vote because they don't want others to know what they voted for - which would mean the results aren't acurate?

Split up the forum to BHA & Football, Cricket (or SCCC), betting if the audience is big enough and Off Topic. That is all.

I'll tell you though the smiley limitation is shocking

Get rid of smjleys without text, get rid of post counts, retain use of the c word (its one of my favs), outright ban for any racist comments, everything else is fair game. Don't sanitise the board, if daddy is worried about what junior sees on the interweb its his own fcuking problem, not ours. Consistentcy in moderation is essential, one in particular stands out as being completely pony. I quite like topics being mixed up, don't think the board needs breaking down anymore. Lastly, can we instigate more board takeovers, anyone remember the heady days of the Chris de Burgh messageboard massacre and (although I did not take part) the most excellent invasion of the Green Bay site. Also, whilst I think piss-taking is one of NSC strong points I would like to see this directed more at the opposition rather than ourselves (except US who deserves everything he gets).
Thats my thoughts.

NSC always has and always should be the online equivalent of life in a pub full of Albion fans, or like being at the game. As such it should reflect the conversations and language used at these places. In all honesty I would say that it's up to each parent to decide when this site is ok to be read by their kids, but perhaps a rule of thumb would be when they would be comfortable with the kids going to a game by themselves. In the meantime there is a safe alternative in brightonfans.com. NSC SHOULD NOT TURN INTO ANOTHER VERSION OF THAT SITE.

I don't agree with censorship at all. Some people need to grow a skin. It's just words. Outright abuse and racism aside of course.

How sensible - I agree 100%

I'm not keen on censorship at all. I certainly wouldn't let my kids on NSC as it is anyway as the language and comments simply aren't suitable. I would quite like to see a kids board set up that would work as a seperate entity so that parental controls could allow just that forum through. Perhaps call it Juniour Seagulls or something, so that all the young Albion fans can chat about all things Albion too. Don't know if that is possible ? Would be great if my lad could talk to other Albion fans about the games too, seeing as all his mates want to talk about is MOTD and the prem teams.

I think a public forum for adults should be free from censorship and the people using it should filter out the rubbish for themselves. There's plenty on here that offends me, but I still choose not to use the ignore facility or report anything to the mods. As far as I can work out anyway, none of the mods have been elected to their position and seem to be by and large unaccountable ( I'm prepared to be corrected on this ). Having said that, the mods do seem to be pretty fair on here for the most part and only acting in the interests of keeping the board running as smooth as possible.

I'm also in favour of keeping the big board as it is, not splitting it up.

It's funny how a lot of people are against censorship, until they have kids.

Just to make the point again about kids - I am not in favour of making NSC a site for 12 year olds. I agree the "it's a pub" principle is correct (and I hate kids in pubs). I wasn't even suggesting that kids should read it or be allowed to do so. It was one comment in a woolly ramble (not a day out for a Welshman btw) that wasn't fully formed but which was posted in the excitement of the first day of the Revolution.

Can we stop kicking that particular puppy in a sack now please. It's clear that Bozza took no notice anyway (quite rightly).

I think it was ok before all this tinkering, It's silly season we all know that, but the footie starts next week and it'll all be back to normal, with us all moaning about Withdean and how shit Doug Loft and Kerry Mayo are !!!!!!!!
The one thing I would say is that we ALL need to take a little responsibility for the moderation if something offends you REPORT it !!

Its fine as it is - you can't stop people joining and posting - infact the messages everywhere invite people to register and post. You can't make the older posters stay and post if they don't want to, if they are sick of the gibberish they'll walk away or stay and argue...nothing you do to a piece of software will change that.

Moderators are human, they get offended by different things, they have short fuses with different type of posts - so it will never be completely "fair" whatever is dished out.

Leave it be - we know its here, we know the binfestery of summer, and that when then summer is over some normalacy will return.

If the mods really want too - any thread that disolves into stupidty should be removed, and a message sent to the offending poster. Don't simply lock it - remove it and tell them why, thats it, thats all and move on.

PS - I liked my post count - and I'm frankly pissed off its gone.

Without being offensive, I am interested to hear what aspects of the post count that people like. Perhaps I'm missing something.

People only like post counts to get a kick out of some sort of dominatrix concept that thereby having a 'larger' post count they are in control, and have 'larger' penises - a rather bizarre concept to say the least.

It gives them a kick of superiority to aid them in their average, standard lives.
