So what would make NSC better?

NSC's Most Stalked
It sounds like it could work. Ideally someone will have done something else already and made a vBulletin hack which would mean it would be a quick download, install and configure. I'll probably not get the chance until the beginning of next week but will look at it then.

that still wont stop the binfests

Topic - Select Brighton Related
Thread Name - Brighton vs Ipswich
Content - 3 posts about the game, 300 about Nibble and Bars Mar calling each other spastics with 50 other people throwing insults for good measure, and one twat saying Mayo should start at left back

It will be devised over the next week or so and published here. If there is a great outcry that indicates that we have got it wrong then we will adjust to suit, of course. Here is an example of an infraction setup from another messageboard:

Code:
Title  	Points  	Expires
Signature Rule Violation 1 60 Days
Filter Violation 	1 	60 Days
Argumentative Sarcastic Posts 1 60 Days
Racist/Sexual/other offensive content 	2 	60 Days
Personal Comment Aimed at other member/s (Minor) 2 90 Days
Personal Comment Aimed at other member/s (Major) 3 Never
Inappropriate Link or Post 1 30 Days
Restarting a closed thread 	1 	30 Days
Advertising against Forum Rules & Policy 5 60 Days
Abuse by PM 9 60 Days
Spamming 	500 	Never

* Penalties: 10 points - Unable to send private messages, use profile messages and cannot have a signature until the points expire
* 15 points - 7 Day Ban
* 30 points - 1 Month Ban
* 31+ points - Permanent ban

OK, I'll give you a break and chance to proove your not just being a poser.

Why not make sure the rules conform to laws of the land, specificly libel and harrassment laws. Its the biggest problem I have to face modding other forums and it WILL happen here unless delt with.

pm me if you want clear definitions etc.

Surely with the capacity to show a large number of topics on the front page it is easy to decide which are football and non football related, and open them accordingly according to your whims and wishes.

Scrolling down a few lines is not too tiresome is it? We seem to be making mountains out of molehills here.
Totally agree, speaking as another of the "it ain't broke so don't try fixing it" brigade. If a thread is titled "Should Adams switch to 4-3-3?" you know you're in for some tiresome Albion-related drivel about formations, with the main contributors probably being those nerdy geeks who think it's cool to have their NSC names on their replica shirts. A thread called "Joke du Jour" will start with some sort of joke (usually old and usually crap but so what), and a thread called 'Lemons or Limes' will have a debate as to which is the best fruit.

Is it really that tricky to pick out the threads that interest you and ignore the ones that don't? If a thread is misleadingly titled a mod will usually fix it so everyone knows what's what.

I think this place needs more regular updates on BARNTIT'S samwitches - I enjoyed that today - all we need is Regents Park football to be rained off and hey presto, with Micky Adams in charge, it'll be the year 2000 all over again.

Plus I used to enjoy that mentalist who used to pretend to represent a threatening group of away fans, the tune subtly varied each time depending on the team: "DO NOT COME TO MILLWALL, WE WILL BOIL YOU IN A VAT", ditto Cardiff: "WE WILL FEED YOU TO OUR SHEEP" etc. All good stuff.

Spot on.

Good idea about the post count - attention seekers will be less inclined to post drivel.

So where is the joke du jour on this thread then ?

"NSC's Funniest Joke"™, as told to the Babel Fish in Italian and back:

A colleague walks in a pub and sees a sign to hang over the bar that she reads:

Sandwich 1,50 of the cheese
Sandwich 2,50 of prosciutto of Parma
Job 10,00 of the hand

Controlling its gatherer finds a single one tenner, walks in on to the bar and calls to one of three blondes particularly attractive that they serve drinks to a group of men.

"Yes?" question with a smile, "I can help it?"

"I was wondering" , say the man, "you are the person who gives the hand-intense activities?"

"Yes," ago the fused one, "effectively I am"

The man answers the "Washed that good your hands love, I want a cheese sandwich."

Leave it alone. It's alright. I like the mixture of Albion/info/ fun/ /advice/the world and everything. There are not many things these days that can make you chuckle but NSC does most days. The Potpourri that is NSC should remain as if. It ain't broke so don't fix it.

lose the java script page fade when changing to another page, it was neat when it first appeared years ago, now it just looks tacky in my mind. Also live match report pages should be kept on topic and people posting fake scores should get a warning. Maybe have it in the title of the thread or the first line of the first posting something like "NO OFF TOPIC" and we respect the original posters wishes.

Basically a little more tolerance and respect to other people would go a long way to help preserving the board and thats down to ALL members to do, its not something the mods can do overnight. We have a board where even club staff are willing to post, but the personal attacks for little or no reason will soon change this

Why cant it be left to evolve slowly ? NSC is a parallel of what is happening in the real world , probably the first ever football forum and message board that had diverse and intellectual posts. Please dont apply silly sanctions and punishments just for saying f*** or other profanities , if this happens then NSC should just amalgamate with Brightonfans. Banning orders need to be consistently applied when dealing with racist posters/threads but other misdemeanors should have the points tally resembling the number of points on a driving license which expire after a certain period.

surely that points system for a ban is just going to result in LOADS of people reporting trivial things - does "go play in traffic" count as abuse for example?
