So what would make NSC better?

Aha! I will do. No, in all seriousness, I think that is part of it but for some people it is also about reliability of the source and about reputation and respect.

It's funny how a lot of people are against censorship, until they have kids.

I disagree.

I'm against censorship and I have kids. I doubt I'm the only one in that position either.

Being a responsible parent means you censor your own kids ( back to the cinema rating thread ). For instance, I'm careful what I let my kids watch on TV, but I believe some parents don't seem to give a damn. My kids also know it's rude to read over peoples shoulders, so they don't see what I'm doing on our PC unless I invite them to come and look. I also teach them not to copy everything they hear, so I have no real problem with swearing in the heat and passion of a football match within ear shot of kids ( think of away ends ). My 9yr old always smiles when the goalkeeper gets the usual...".You're SHIT...AHHH! " for instance, but he knows not to copy it in my presence.

Where I would agree with censorship however is if there was a Junior Seagulls type forum on here. That should be heavily modded, both for language etc and for the safety of the kids using it. Although if such a forum did exist, I know I'd be keeping a very watchful eye on what my lad gets involved with on there.

I agree with the pub analogy made by others.

If Bozza wants NSC to be more civil surely this is inappropriate :tosser:, why is it still an option ?.

this isnt a forum! its a have a go at anyone or anything and be completely negative about our football club, staff & players which we know do look at this site from time to time. Not exactly a great advert for fans utd and getting behind the club. Maybe the moderators should take more of an interest in some of the crap posted on this site with regards to banning them from future use.

ALike a referee, a good mod is one you don't see often, one who doesn't need to step in & stop the flow every 2 mins. Then again, a ref will have to step in if players take liberties and misbehave and that's what has been happening lately where some seem to have a personal vendetta against others or who have just become tiresome in the one trick joke of being deliberatly controversial or negative. Ok, so they may consider it a wind up and are please when people do get wound up, but the joke wears thin.

I don't like the personal abuse, almost all uncalled for. I've not read the whole thread but, just on this page, there's been a go at Seagulled, a youngster who, although not always right, always tries to justify his points.

I'm all for self regulation but some on here may be better off on NSP.

BTW, i'm all for smilies and post counts.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
More active and consistent moderation to stamp out the on-line bullying of various posters, and the gratuitous offensiveness (racism, sexism, homophobia) of others who seem to think that constant personal abuse is somehow clever. Aso possibly more reporting of bullying and offensiveness to moderators by others since the mods can't be expected to read everything on here all the time.

However part of the attraction of NSC is the semi-anarchy that can exist and the fact that next to the occasional serious post about football, there might be somebody ranting about their current perceived injustice - or even a word asociation game. This is why I would prefer the Big Board to remain a single entity. To split it into separate topics would make it much less entertaining and loose much of the spontineity

How moderators manage to maintain this and the first paragraph is an issue - but they are in the position of the referee in the face of a pack of angry players (and crowd) if they decide that something is out of order. I would not want to see moderators acting as stringently as in a certain other BHA related forum (which might explain why so few people appear to post there), but if you have volunteered to be a moderator you have undertaken to act responsibly and consistently.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to express their opinion regardless of whether people agree or disagree, but there are ways and means of doing this in an acceptable manner, and some posters on here abuse this right.

Personally I don't care about post counts, althought some indicated that certain posters spent an astonishing amount of time in front of their computers. There is a big wide world out there as well....

I quite like smileys...
