Well maybe you need to think a bit more about the point I was making.

Oh, & I'd imagine the link you provided shows the dreadful fire at Valley Parade? Thankfully, modern concrete stadia is a damned sight more fireproof than the old wooden constructions, but I digress. The reality is that whether you like it or not, some people will still smoke inside stadiums (albeit in the toilets) - regardless of the effect on others. Shirley by offering a practical solution to this issue - whereby the aforementioned nicotine addicts can go outside at H/T - is the sensible option??

Some people will always drink and drive. Should we make allowances for them?
Some people will start fights in West Street on a Friday. Should we set up a boxing ring for them?

It is against the grounds rules to smoke in the ground. If you don't like it don't go. Simple solution really. If you're caught smoking in the ground then you're evicted and your season ticket revoked.

Poor form there mate using that footage of Bradford to back up your argument. No-one on this thread is suggesting smoking being allowed Inside the ground in the stands.

People are saying smoking in the toilets is fine but what's the difference. Yes modern stadiums are concrete but they still have flamible material in them.

Still don't see why the club should factilat for smokers its banned has been for some time.

I can't think of any way of policing it to prevent people without tickets getting "back" in - hard enough with paper tickets but with the cards it would be even more impossible. You could have a small fenced off area for smokers, but then a) would it actually count as being outside the ground?, and b) wouldn't help people like your friend as it would have to be small and would be so full of smokers it'd probably be way more uncomfortable than the concourses.

It's easy. Do they same as they do in clubs. Stamp your hand on the way out. No stamp, no re-entry.

No they aren't, one person said it i think in jest, the argument is wether we should be allowed outside the stadium at half time.

The club can't have a smoking section. Smoking is banned in all grounds under FA/League rules.
What rubbish as its upto the clubs to decide on the smoking at the stadium.
You can smoke at the madjeski stadium and you can smoke at brentford???

Well that's your opinion & fair enough, although I don't see how you can equate drink-driving & pissed-up fisticuffs on West Street with supporters who would like to have a ciggy away from others during the interval. As you say - I don't personally like it as it happens, but I am able & willing to go without a ciggy for the duration of the match & I will continue to not do so if that's the policy.

I smoke and I am probably classed as a heavy smoker, but I wouldn't dream of smoking in the toilets. Firstly I respect others that don't smoke including my family, I only smoke in the garden at home. But secondly I would hate to be thrown out just for the sake of a smoke. Opening the doors for 10 mins at half time would help, but as has already been said, it would be a bit unfair on WSU smokers. But as it stands, We all knew when we bought our season that there was a no smoking policy in operation,so I think we will have to live with it.

Not really fair on people needing a SHIT is it?

I hope this is clamped down on, it's disrespectful and inconsiderate

Well if you can't go two hours without having to have a SHIT then I have no sympathy.

People who want a shit shouldn't be allowed into stadiums. Simple.

I smoke but do not feel the need to have a cigarette for what is only 4 hours max. If you need a bit of help in that time buy some version of a smoking replacement, patch/chewie/fake electric cigarette. It is only 2 hours max in a stadium if your that desperate for one by going inside as late as possible

Natural bodily function (which isn't always predictable), not illegal. Completely different.

OMG, I'm like a pop a point pencil when I eat. what goes in forces something out the other end lol. I absolutely have to make room for a post match pie :)

Anyone trried those electronic cigarette jobbies they sell on Ryanair flights? Wondered if they are a good substitute for a couple of hours.

i smoke, and so far have been able to hold out for the game (one before getting on the train at brighton, one after the game)

as far as i can see, a decent solution would be:-

a) have a fenced off smoking area outside the stadium, as they do in some nightclubs

b) let people out, but give them some sort of re-admission ticket........be it an ink stamp, as they do in clubs/bars, or a paper ticket that can be shown to a steward upon re-admission

People in the WSU by the time you have walked down there had a smoke and walked back up, the game probably would have started.

As has been said previously, it's not difficult to whack open a door for 10 minutes so people can smoke is it? Derby and Barnsley for instance do so without any issues.

Couldn't they make rows of holes in the stadium walls, with neoprene seals, so that smokers could stick their heads through and have a fag?
