yes but can that not be done without the smack beforehand? maybe some other punishment like the removal of a favourite toy or a good old naughty step if they're toddler age?

we do that, a smack is the last resort and worked fine, After one smack, the threat of it is enough if said child tries pushing too far

Anyone who hits their children is a cruel, weak, heartless, lazy, spineless child abuser. For whatever reason. Do you hit pensioners in homes when they don't do what you want.

If I see anyone smacking their kids in publicI always say something to them. Horrific behaviour. Some people should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

that just about sums up what a total **** you are

I remember clearly the weekly beatings that took place at St Andrew's Middle School in the 70s... the offenders would be led out on a raised platform in front of the whole school and caned on an outstretched palm - there were no problems with discipline in THAT school

If the beatings were weekly - it clearly didn't work.

At St John the Baptist in Kemp Town - smacking was part of the school day. Ruler on the hand, ruler on the back of the leg, leather strap on the hand, cane on the hand, cane on the back of the hand, and with the headmaster - cane on the arse. And a few other variations on the theme.

These just became part of life. It showed the school had no real idea of discipline.

The occasional smack never did me any harm? Well no, I'm sure if you smacked a bloke in the pub it would not really cause him any lasting harm but that is no reason to do it. It is still a bad thing to do to someone else.

People wear that like a badge of honour "a smack never did me any harm" really? Didn't upset you at all?

Of course it upset me at the time, however, I still grew up a well rounded individual. So, cock bollocks, how would you discipline your child?

Why? because I don't like to see children being bullied. Calling me a wanker is not going to make you right. And seeing as you don't have a f***ing clue who or what I am I would be very careful about summing people up.

It is not a threat, or bullying. It is meant more in the sense of be careful not to ruin your side of the argument by calling people names. But I can see that calling people names and whacking kids is something you are happy to resort to.

be careful not to assume NIBBLE......why would you think I would be happy to resort to hitting children ? Can you point out to me where I have said that?

for your information, my parents smacked me (very infrequently) as a child. They are not abusive or bullies....so your argument is totally floored

Nibble - can you give us a quick overview of your parenting experience please?

Yes I can. I am not a parent. That has little to do with this though does it? If you think about it. I can recognise child abuse and bullying when I see it.

I really am not going to comment on your parents because it is only going to incite more venom from you.

And Bozza, it is clear you are only getting involved because of our argument the other day
