£50 million for a player who has 18 months of a contract left is a lot of money. If Villa want to part with that you would take it, makes no sense not to. If the club know something we don’t about his contract situation then obviously they won’t accept it, but if he does sign on I’m sure there will be a release clause ref champions league clubs for around the same money or a little higher.
Either way I don’t think we can lose on this one.

Including the player who was billed as the biggest coup of them all. A generational South American footballer already starring internationally against some of the worlds best teams. A player described as a goal scoring Biss. A player who would undoubtedly benefit from the same kind of patience Biss was shown early on in and around the first team. At some point young players like Caicedo need to be tested, not on loan at relegation favourites in Belgium, but consistently, here. Learning first hand from Potter, learning from mistakes, getting used to the insane intensity of this league. Eventually something has to give- these players need to be involved and only can be if players (even our best players) leave. If Biss has said he won’t be signing a new contract, or even if the club just think that is the most likely outcome, there comes a time when you take the money and give a chance to someone else.

That time most certainly is not the January window when you are in 8th and directly competing against Villa for prize money and an outside shot at Europe.

If we get a big bid in the summer I've no doubt Tony won't stand in his way. But Biss's next move needs to be to a side who will win major trophies, not another "Other 14" side with a bit more money.

I think this is all true. However it may be the case that someone at Villa can persuade him that they are going to take the next step in the near future.

To be honest the Coutinho signing (albeit a loan), the Bissouma signing itself and the possibility of Dinge all represent fair evidence that the club is moving forward.

Oh for sure. I'm not saying that Villa don't appear to be an enticing option, just that they aren't the most enticing option that he could be offered and that he'd be foolish to jump at it now if in 6 months or even 18 he could walk into pretty much any club in world football.

Why go somewhere for your peak years who might be the next big thing when you can join the actual current and next big thing?

Villa can pay him well, but most likely not what the top clubs could and I think if Biss and his agent have any kind of patience they will wait for a better team. I wouldnt be massively shocked if he moved to Villa but I would be surprised.

Someone mentioned in the thread that Villa are likely to play in Europe in a few seasons thanks to money and the master mind of Gerrard... well, feels like I've heard for 22 years of watching the PL that Everton and Aston Villa are soon going to play in Europe, win cup titles and this and that and it has very rarely been true. As for Gerrard his time in Rangers was impressive but PL is a different beast and it is just too early to know how it is going to work out.

Their cup pedigree would be there for all to see, but unfortunately most of it was before we had moving pictures. Their last trophy of any sort was also before the Internet or widescreen TV and they’ve had many false dawns since. Hopefully this turns out to be another.

They only works if you make all the other players work only 18 months left train with the U23s and then the club become ‘bad’ when trying to attract new players.

Likewise he can earn way more to sign on a free for a bigger club + easier deal than him signing a new deal if we plan to sell any way. In Bissouma eyes he owes us nothing, both parties signed a deal - that deal is running out and he may think he is better off elsewhere for whatever reasons.

The agent will be doing his job seeking out suitors and trying to make sure his client gets the best deal possible.

On the Villa front I’d be surprised if modern players signed based on who the manager is anymore as there is little guarantee that manager will be there in 6-12-18 months time.

Absolutely. He was (allegedly) almost off to a major trophy-winning club in the summer.....and fair play to him - he is a great talent. If I were Biss I'd see Villa as a bit of a step down after the move that (allegedly) nearly happened.

I really don't think that's true. I think Aston Villa under Steven Gerrard have every chance of rivaling Leicester, West Ham and Tottenham for 5th - this season. Next season, with continued investment, they could be a real threat to the top 4. Gerrard's the real deal and their investment seems particularly wise. They're a very real threat at the top end of the table.
