The proviso is that, according to the police, "investigations are continuing". He was on bail for 3 months whilst they investigated. They collected no evidence in that time that would enable them to charge him, and no potential avenues of enquiry that would warrant extending his bail further

I’ve got a sneaky feeling Biss will sign a new contract with a massive buy-out clause once his legal problems are behind him.

The fact that the club have shown such levels of trust in him throughout the situation will mean a lot and he clearly loves being here. A new 4 year deal with a £60,000,000 buyout clause for when one of the proper big boys come in for him, not Aston f*cking Villa. Personally think it’ll be Manchester United he ends up at - he’s better than Matic, Fred & McTomminay combined ffs.

I've got a sneaky feeling that Bissouma won't sign anything at all, nor will he agree to a contract at any other premier league club. He'll either leave at the end of his contract or for a fairly small fee to a big club in Spain, Italy or the south of France, clubs that can't compete on transfer fees with the Prem but will offer Biss what he wants, sun, sea and the Champions League

The Prem has got so big and rich that the only way to leave it for many players is to let your contract expire. Risky perhaps but the rewards are there.

Given what’s left on his contract, and the other options we have in midfield, I imagine we probably would if he isn’t prepared to sign a new deal.

To be honest that would be good business for us. Shame to see him go but he'll almost certainly be off at the end of the season regardless, we are virtually safe, he's missing the next month anyway and may as well get a big fee for him now.

That’s looking like the standard ‘but out’ amount for our top stars when they sign new contracts. Hopefully Biss signs his extension on the dotted line very soon.

If Villa are prepared to pay £50m for Biss, a top Champions League club will gazump them before you can say “Villa are well on their way to equalling Everton in the absurd amount of money they spend on useless punts”.

Naylor actually says a bid of £50 million would demand serious consideration from Tony.

Our other problem is that Trossard, Maupay and Mac Allister ( and others ) are also out of contract at the same time.

We are facing a massive rebuild unless we get some of these deals extended.

Indeed. If he was a available for say, £30m, which EPL clubs would not be happy for him to join?

Unless he runs down his contract severely, there are only a handful of clubs that we’re likely to sell to. These are Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, PSG, Bayern, Real Madrid and Barca. Whilst Newcastle could easily afford him and would be able to outbid all rivals if need be, I honestly believe that Biss would prioritise Champions League football over salary, he won’t be getting that in the toon for a long time.

Can we get him on Mastermind, specialist subject the Bleedin' Obvious? Of course a bid of that size would be seriously considered for a player with 18 months left on a contract, and it wouldn't matter where it came from. It's all very well us being sniffy about Villa and their fans' big talk, but I think we should dial that down a bit. Clubs rise and fall, as we know only too well. It's not that long ago that we lost players and a manager to mighty Reading. Whether Bissouma would be interested in going to Villa rather than holding out for a club playing in Europe is another question entirely.

One possibility that few seem to be considering is that TB might be okay with the idea of not selling, but just enjoying Bissouma being a Brighton player until the end of his deal. After all, he refused to sell Dale Stephens with less than a year remaining of his contract because he thought that the player staying with us was more important for the team. If the club decide that Caicedo isn't quite ready to step up and that Biss staying gets us in the conversation for Europe or keeps us in the Premier League then the calculation becomes a more complex one. And that's leaving out the possibility of, er, legal complexities or even the player signing a contract extension in gratitude for the club's support while he was on bail.

The big clubs are probably looking at the situation and waiting to see what happens before making their move. There is possibly some thinking that they don't want to spend what Brighton want on him now when there is a strong chance he'll be cheaper in the summer or free the following summer but they would be forced to move if another club get a bid accepted.

Obviously at this point £50m would be hard to say no to but I dont think Villa are going to bid that and I also think Bissouma might have some bigger ambitions than playing for another mid-tier PL club.

They would be deluded to think that way. In the unlikely event that our asking price would be cheaper in summer then it would be cheaper for everyone else too, and it would be a gamble to assume that Biss would choose them rather than a rival. Of course, a Villa bid might smoke out higher bidders, which would be to our advantage.
