[Travel] Skiing 2025

We are off to Les Deux Alpes on February half term (for my sins ), will be busy but hopefully snow will be ok.
I'd be interested in any advice on some smaller Austrian ski resorts with decent spa hotels (for next year). No pressure...just any place that comes to mind in five minutes .

Just arrived in Inari in Northern Finland, lots of cross country skiing and hiring a snow mobile and dog sled to explore the frozen lakes, currently -21⁰C with light fluffy powder snow.

Arosa in Switzerland now, nearly over. Wonderfully empty slopes, but a few more aggressive skiing 20 year olds today (long weekends?).

Colfosco on the Sella Ronda in the Dolomites in a few weeks time.

All timed to avoid European school holidays.

I wish I could go again. Alas the arthritic spine and knee are now making it hard to stand let alone ski.

Still..... I haven't given up yet. And at my age I get a free lift pass at may resorts . . .

I have a season pass for one of the local Vancouver mountains called Seymour. It's smaller than Cypress and Grouse but is the only family owned and operated one. It's also much quieter, I can be in the resort parking lot from the other side of the city in half an hour.

I have a 10 day Whistler pass too, have 7 days left.

Lived there for 4 years in the 80s. Take the bus after work, up Cypress as the sun set.... Five dollars....insanely brilliant. I envy you big time.

My favourite ski trips are at those incredible Austrian spa hotels. I met a bloke years ago on a ski clinic trip who used to book one later each season so that his non-skiing wife had lots to do when he went off skiing (St Anton).

Yeah, I recall finding walking down stairs at home a bit of a chore after the second week last season. Stretching/flexibility work at home/away I find really helps, done daily.

St Anton....was the last place I went ( a few weeks after you I recall). The pool/spa was empty in the afternoons. Bloody brilliant!

As I've mentioned before on here I work in medical assistance for travel insurance.

Make sure you're buying travel insurance that has winter sports cover suitable for what you're doing, would be surprised how many people don't.

Most of all enjoy it, never been skiing but would love to at some point.

Just arrived in Inari in Northern Finland, lots of cross country skiing and hiring a snow mobile and dog sled to explore the frozen lakes, currently -21⁰C with light fluffy powder snow.

We once tried dog sledging. Me and Mrs Wz had our own sleds and the kids (who were very young) were put in the sled of a proper musher. They tied 5 scrawny looking huskies to my sled and I said 'are you sure, the 5 of them pulling me ?'. We took off like a rocket and I had my foot on the snow brake most of the time

It is incredible seeing real working dogs in their natural environment, constantly fighting (or bickering, we were told) about their place in the hierarchy. Makes all domestic dogs look like a load of pussies

Hi. Sorry, none in particular, but I know it’s much loved … never heard a criticism. We stayed literally around the corner in a wonderful small family resort many times.

How are you getting there? If it meets your needs, fly to Turin, more convenient. You will need chains just in case from Grenoble or Turin, the only exception is coming from Gap.

It's light from around 10:00 until 14:00 and fades to an hour of twilight, if its snowing or just cloudy it stays pretty dark, not night time dark, you can see to get around fine, we organise our activities before we go with the tour operators, it is pretty easy to organise activities when you are up here the Hotels are always eager to help, but it's not always the cheapest option, we had all our outdoor oversuits, snow shoes and skis included in the holiday cost.

The first time I drove a dog sled I nearly shat my pants at how quick they take off, absolutely mental creatures, again, scrawny, skinny looking mutts but they fly and seem to love it! I did a 90 minute trip around a frozen lake, great fun!

Skied the incredible Lagazuoi ‘Hidden Valley‘ in the Italian Dolomites this morning. It finishes with skiers being pulled along by horses over a long flat to the nearest village.
