When we first went skiing (40 years ago ) we went to a few 'smaller resorts' St Johan, Coumayer, Cavalese and found we had skied all the pistes within a day and very quickly got bored. So for the last 35 years we have been going to the big linked resorts with 200Km+ and continued this when the kids were born and started skiing. Obviously these resorts are more expensive (hotels, passes, restaurants, everything).
Last year, with the guys I play football with we went to Bardonecchia and although we'd skied it all in 3 days, I was quite happy taking it 'easier' and the prices were a real eye opener. This has now opened up hundreds of 'smaller' resorts for Me and Mrs Wz that are far cheaper. From what I've seen, really good Hotels in small Austrian resorts are half the price they are in Tignes, La Plagne, Three Valleys etc
(The kids still want 100s of kms)
Brighton will be like a monastery, no vaginas in town…..Ah time for the yearly middle class migration from Brighton.
We are off to Les Deux Alpes on February half term (for my sins ), will be busy but hopefully snow will be ok.My favourite ski trips are at those incredible Austrian spa hotels. I met a bloke years ago on a ski clinic trip who used to book one later each season so that his non-skiing wife had lots to do when he went off skiing (St Anton).
Yeah, I recall finding walking down stairs at home a bit of a chore after the second week last season. Stretching/flexibility work at home/away I find really helps, done daily.
I’ve heard Thredbo is excellentWe are off to Les Deux Alpes on February half term (for my sins ), will be busy but hopefully snow will be ok.
I'd be interested in any advice on some smaller Austrian ski resorts with decent spa hotels (for next year). No pressure...just any place that comes to mind in five minutes .
Cheers

Yes, good point about the altitude of some Austrian resorts. What month do you have in mind? Lots of low altitude villages where Dec, Mar or Apr would be a big risk. Jan and Feb so many options.
I'm sure it isI’ve heard Thredbo is excellent

At the moment we're tied to Feb half term (3 more years, although we don't ski every year). I'd also consider Xmas as a treat for Mrs R, when we'd be ok with decent food and pool, even if snow was below par.
So, let's say Feb for now.
Thanks
Extremely helpful thank you. I've hiked and biked in Austria but never skied there. An hour from Salzburg or less, there’s the Ski Amade villages such as Rohrmoos-Untertal, Wagrain, Zauchensee and Flachau. So many nice hotels, I use TripAdvisor with the usual qualification regarding their mates plugging places or a few awful customers trying to destroy places. Flight costs at that exact time will be horrendous unless you’re able to sneak away a couple of earlier. Cheaper flights from Vienna (we did that once, but a 3 hour drive) and Zurich. Zurich would be good for Zurs (pricey), Warth.
All these villages/hamlets have that fantastic ski to door thing.
There are also iconic villages such as Alpbach and St Johann in Tirol, but limited skiing and the slush/rain risk (climate change in action).
Booking very early for highly rated places in high season (Feb) is now commonplace …. a year ahead.

Ahh Pas de le Casa, many a wild trip down there in the 90’sDunno, I’m past it now but about thirty years ago a group of about twenty of us used to go to Andorra every year, It was amateur hour on the slopes and the nights were akin to Ibiza, the booze was cheaper than it was here and you could and did drink 24 hours
