When you think about it, he is probably on screen for probably a combined 3 minutes or something per week, yet the hatred of him by some is hilarious.

Saying that, it's often the same people who complain about the licence fee which is up there as one of the WEIRDEST things people get funny about.
Wait till they find out he's being replaced by "Alec" Scott.

I disagree, highlights are on youtube. I want to hear what they think
Remember the week when they did exactly that when Wrighty and co walked off, then some weirdo politicians emerged and suddenly became football experts

Huh? The BBC isn’t good value? Okay.

“The BBC is fine..”

The BBC is magnificent. One of the finest British institutions. If not THE finest.

“fine” 🤣.

Give your head a wobble.
Isn't it down to what you watch and use it for?
Plenty of people don't watch it or use it, so for them it isnt value!

Plenty of stupid people in the world who don’t realise ‘the value’ of but do know the price of everything.

Beeb's still great value and accessible to almost everyone, the media and tech moguls hate this.

The likes of Sky are accessible to those who can afford it, its poor value. The main winners are shareholders many of whom don't live here

It's subjective but for me just want commentators/presenters to stick with the sports they are covering like (I stand to be corrected) but the likes of Harry Carpenter, Peter Alliss, Motty politics and sport never sit well together IMHO. For me if you want charisma, grace and style then it is for me Des and not O'Connor.

I’m not sure how to break this to you, but as the specially-trained Community Liaison Moderator we need to talk about Harry Carpenter, Peter Allis and Motty.

Whether you use it or not, it’s still superb value. The product is good value.

If you don’t use the BBC in any way shape or form, don’t buy a license. Not hard.

Having sisd that, 100% of the people I know that claim not to use the BBC do actually use it. Quite a lot.

Public service broadcasting is one of few things we're world beating at and it still highly regarded around the world, it helps underpin democracy at home and abroad and is a great instrument of soft power. Yet look at how the previous government hollowed out the World Service.

The alternative, just look at America and where that takes you...
Well, quite 👍

I'm quite happy to pay it, I think I get decent use out of it via Sounds alone.

The difference is the services you mention above is personal choice.
You can opt out of the license fee as long as you don't consume their services.
.
I only use my TV via Firestick/Apple TV.
If I didn't ever use iPlayer I could inform TV Licensing of this fact and opt out.

It won't be long before iplayer is a streaming service which can be opted into via a device linked to your tv.

It worth noting the BBC licence model isn't unique for public service broadcast, its common across other European countries.

Plenty of people, don't consume any BBC content?
Plenty?

I bet there aren't many UK households that don't consume a single moment of BBC content per year.
Or radio or the 3rd most visited website in the UK

I like Lineker as a bloke, but the fee that the BBC has had to pay him in order to compete with privately funded broadcasters has been disproportionate to the value he brought to sports coverage. Few, if any of us tune into MotD or choose the BBC for internationals because Lineker's presenting it. The once fantastic BBC4 has been made a repeats channel under Davie and I understand that along with CBBC, its for the chop. If they're having to make these kind of decisions, it seems hard to justify renewing a £2m p.a. contract for someone to say 'Here's the highlights' and banter with Shearer about his playing career (again). I'd be happy with Chapman, with Scott, with anybody who has done MotD2 if we still get football and the money saved can be utilised elsewhere.

Good riddance. Don't need a presenter. Just show highlights for the whole show.
We have that already with YouTube. People watch MOTD for multiple reasons. The pundit conversation afterwards the traditional elements of it even things like the classic theme tune even though it’s often slightly different each year. I’d love a more edgy pundit in the Hansen Keane mould as the main negative with MOTD is they’re too nice too safe.

Meh, couldn’t care less about the tax channel,
He didn’t get any of my money to sit there and say Declan Rice shouldn’t have got a red against Brighton. It was a second booking you over paid tube.

As much as I love the BBC and quite like Linekar, he was paid far too much.
Do we know what his predecessor will be paid?

I'd do it for 50k a year and steak and chips with garden peas, with some banoffee pie to finish off, while sitting with the sound men in the BBC canteen.

I alone work with 3 people that no longer use it, other means of getting their TV use.
The number of those watching Domestic TV is falling.
