We eat fish. We dont eat fox.

maybe you forgot the earlier points - we dont eat fish caught in the sport of course fishing. the fact they might do in Czech is neither here nor there, just as a korean might tuck into fox. unless this inconsistancy can be explain, its clear that the fox hunting was attack on class and policital grounds not ethical grounds. (im not pro hunting, i just hate hypocrisy)

why would you do that , is it because you presume them rich and you poor , i doubt you have ever met anyone who hunts , so what makes you want to do that , just a question like

Wahoo...that was a joke...you know, humour...intended to make people laugh, not serious, that sort of thing!

I grew up in an area where people hunted, so it is fairly likely that I will have met plenty of people who were involved, my issue is with people who abuse animals or cause them unnecessary suffering.

Youre right. They dont eat the fish caught in course fishing...they throw them back. Thats a major difference. The fox isnt released to 'fight another day' as somebody else put it, describing course fishing..Its ripped apart when caught.
The fishing analogy isnt comparable. Its not hypocracy at all.
Anyway, in answer to the op... no..any new government will have far more important issues to deal with other
than country social events.

The fox is a cute looking animal unlike a rat or a warthog. However, anyone who has seen the inside of a hen house after a fox has visited will tell you that it's a vicious little bastard who will slaughter everything it sees even though it only takes one chicken.

The issue most people have with Fox Hunting is more of a class problem and not so much the fox. The irony is that there are plenty of 'working class' people who ride to hounds, it's not all Hooray Henrys and Henrietas.

However, Fox Hunting is not an effective way of culling foxes, it's just hunting for sport, just like fishing in fact. Granted the fish if they survive, get thrown back, the fox if it escapes (as it often does) lives to run another day.

The class element is mostly significant because it affects the way that political parties view the issue and how their stance on it would be reflected at the polls.

Personally, I have no love of foxes but cannot see how building a social event around a live animal being ripped to shreds could be a part of anyone's idea of a civilised society.

I feel a similar sense of revulsion at the thought of pitbulls tearing each apart in front of a baying crowd in a dive in the East End.

When the ban was first enacted I was against it, as I saw it as a fairly mean piece of class warfare. I still believe that the ban was motivated by a desire to stick one to the upper classes however, my view on the ban itself has changed.

In recent years I have got quite a bee in my bonnet about the mantra of cultural relativism: that is to say that there is equal value in a variety of different viewpoints. This warm, wooly thinking excuses, for example, all manor of religious bigotry.

I feel that hunting represents cruelty to a sentient being; much the same as my feelings regarding bull hunting. However, I did not support a ban as I did not feel it was my place to dictate to another group how they should occupy their time. My stance had hardened. I feel some things are just wrong and that it is appropriate to act against them. It seems that the hunting community has adapted and membership appears to be on the increase so I am content to let the ban stand, even if it was enacted on spurious grounds of "class envy".

you have obviously never heard of sport fishing where the actual sport is the fun of catching the fish , the harder it fights the better etc the fish is then released to fight another day !

I obviously HAVE heard of it, abd I also think that is cruel.

As I wrote before...

Catch and eat-fine
catch for sport-not on in my view.

there are over 3 million anglers in our country that think course fishing is great sport and engage in it most weekends
unlike a few polish gents that night fish without permission in our canals and lakes who seem to think it ok to catch and eat anything they can get there paws on (swans included)
