I assume that this idea was posted during a day out from the insitution, it is complete and utter madness. The only worry is that our wonderful Green led Council will see this as a runner and implement it immediately.

How would it be implemented, via a loud air-raid siren signalling the start and finish, to ensure no disputes on my watch says I've still got x minutes before the start of the ban, etc.

How would the ban be enforced, what penalties would be imposed, the list just goes on and on.

What about a total car ban in our city between 7.45 and 8.30 every weekday morning, this could leave roads free for all cyclist to travel to school and work.
Might make a huge impact on obesity in our society and cut down car trips. Also we could have a 3.15pm to 4.00pm ban for homeward journeys.

And the kids would all arrive at a school with no teachers in it...! Most arrive 8am - 8.15am IMHO and most have to use or share a car as they have kids of their own to drop off, or live miles away.

Roads are made for cars! Use the cycle lanes if you cycle and pavement if you walk. What's the problem?

All you are going to do is move the rush hour, how does banning cars for 45 mins change anything. People will still drive to work and parents will still drive their kids to school, just at a different time. Other then give cyclists a free ride i can not see what it would achieve. IMO when cyclist start paying road tax and insurance for being on the road( including the pavement as some of you think you have that right aswell), then you can have a debate

What about blue badge holders?
What about the effect of tax revenue, from the pumps?

BLUE BADGE HOLDERS CAN ADJUST LIKE THE REST OF US AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT PETROL SALES I THINK ITS A GROWTH MARKET:moo:

So what you are effectively saying is that if anyone is suffering from a severe medical condition that requires immediate medical assistance where an ambulance is not available that the driver of the ill person has to arrange to get from the city boundary into A&E between those times?

What about heavily pregnant mums to be...I can imagine my wife's reaction...

"I'm sorry mrs Supaseagull I'm afraid you will have to walk or rely on the number 1 bus from Mile Oak to the Maternity ward of the Sussex County"

Yep can see that working!

I like that idea. Lorry's are only second to motorbikes as the scum of the road and the biggest problem with the british road network.
If lorries are such a problem, how exactly would you propose to do without them ? If to banned lorries just for one day, this country would grind to a halt. Fact.
