Novel idea. Would be just as pointless as someone closing the motorway for a day so people could stare at it through their window...

This has got legs.

Taxi drivers can be given pedal powered rickshaws for the "car ban" times, and their improved health with reduce the burden placed on the NHS.

Do what I do, arrive 15 minutes before you are due to START work so you are logged in ready for when you are meant to start. Or are you oneof these that arrives when you are due to start and take 5-10 minutes to log in, get tea made etc.... so actually start at 8:05-8:10?

I get to work at 8 because we have a parade and roll call at 08:15 and START work at 08:30.

I think cars should postively be encourged with promise of rewards, of knocking an cyclist of their bikes in the case of using roads, where a cycle lane exists next to said road. We should have to give a 5 second warning, by means of a double honk of the horn, and then its crash time. Obviosuly any damage to said motor vehicles would be covered by a special "cycle tax".:D

I can't cycle to work in Brighton from Uckfield. And for all sorts of other reasons not directly related to myself, this is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard.

so you propose so far that everyone in Brighton whose job is within about an hour travel must either start upto 1h 15m early or an hour late, and disabled must move house to be closer to schools.

what i dont see is the case made for why cyclist and schools should be given priority. how about making schools open later so you go to school after the rush hour? and ban the cyclist for just being up their arse, thinking they rule the roads they dont pay for.

Its not priority for schools its 90 minutes out of 24 hours and you don't have to go to school to ride a bike. And you might have noticed when the schools are off the rush hour is not so busy.It will take car journeys out the system, and tbh i think people should send the kids to the nearest school, and while we are on a roll you should work where you live.

Just ban private car ownership altogether. Cycles and scooters (inc mobility) for all. More buses. Keep taxis. Vans and Lorries only allowed in peak hours where a business case has been shown. A nationalised "car club" scheme with a number of free hours available (increased for those with kids, mobility issues etc) and extra hours charged on a progressive scale.

What happens if you started your journey at 6 and get stuck in traffic 10 miles from you destination at 7.45?
What happens? Just pull over and read the paper?
Crazy
Please do not apply logic to this suggestion, your contribution is not welcome.

What about a total car ban in our city between 7.45 and 8.30 every weekday morning, this could leave roads free for all cyclist to travel to school and work.
Might make a huge impact on obesity in our society and cut down car trips. Also we could have a 3.15pm to 4.00pm ban for homeward journeys.
Yup, love it!

If you need to use your car you get to work (etc.) earlier or later, if you don't then you walk/cyclr/use public transport.

Simple.

When did cyclists pay road tax to allow them to use the roads without cars?

there are cycle lanes on some roads CYCLISTS dont use them they prefer to use the roads.....

also on the prom they dont stick to the cycle lanes they think they own the whole width of the prom.

BAN BIKES!!!

You obviously don't have a job that you need to get to. Anyway loosing a few means less competition for jobs in the future
