Shorey

I imagine just about all teams without parachute payments are weaker than they'd like to be in at least one position and sweating on being able to sort it before the window closes. It won't just be us.

I would of thought if he was fit he would have been offered a deal , my guess is he was not 100% fit after spending his time here or tests showed something that we simply could not afford to take a chance on .

My assumption is that Nicky Shorey is asking for too much money and that the club can get better value elsewhere. Even if we end up with a LB not quite as good as Shorey, it might be worth while - we might need to keep our powder dry for the January window?

January would be far too late to sign a LB!

If we are serious about challenging for promotion we need to address this gaping hole in our squad now; no excuses.

I'm happy to wait and see what happens, I am pretty certain wheels are in motion and if it means waiting to get the right man, I'm happy to do that without getting all flustered about it.

Better to wait for the right player than panic buy. Spanish Dave can play right back and Calderon is a competent left back.

2 seasons ago we had massive injuries to both Elphick and El-Abd and many people said we needed cover. Dunk came in and did a fantastic job and even held El-Abd at bay for a while after he was fit. I don't think we should be too worried about Chicksen or Maxsimenko, we may find that they do a decent job when given a decent chance.

I'm glad we didn't sign Shorey as he isn't the future for us, he may have only played for a season or two and at his age fitness could become an issue.

We still have a long time till the transfer window closes and then loans will be available. Oscar could unearth an absolute gem for us

If the guy was really good enough for a team looking to challenge in the top half of the division he would have been signed up by a club by now. Our ageing defence needs a player with some pace who is not at the end of his career.

We all knew the gaping hole that Wayne Bridge would leave. By miles the best left-back in the Championship and still good enough to play for a lot of Prem teams. Could we afford £35k-£40k per week. No.
Bridge made a big difference last season and without him we will see a big difference this season. We won't replace that class but we need someone pretty damn useful and pretty damn quick.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think letting shorey go was a mistake? Unless he was going to be on high wages (Unlikely), was injury prone, or else-

He seemed a decent, solid left back. Nothing special, not to much flair, but solid. But I assumed we had a Barca B flairmeister lined up when we rejected him. Wheras now, we have no one to fill that giant hole wayne bridge has left.

Oh, and chicksen and masimenko are NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I assume your user name is an attempt at irony.

Don't you just hate the school holidays (except for being able to drive about freely without the sprog taxis on the roads)?

My Reading sources inform me that Shorey's best days are behind him and they were surprised we were even looking at him.

Correct. Now is not the time to waste good money as we have cover.

You're completely deluded if you think Shorey is the correct answer for Albion! We're ONE game in to the season with a MONTH left of the transfer window... Just how many times have you seen Chicksen play?

Too many people on NSC who just want Albion to spend for the sake of spending...

no no no, you have got it wrong: i don't think we should go out and sign shorey- I think we should have signed him before, after his 1 week trial.

Also, from what I have seen from chicksen during friendlies and in his MK Dons career, he is weak on the ball and gets pushed of it too easily. He will of course, get better and i am not for 1 minute suggesting he is a bad player. I just feel we need experience and more quality in this postion sooner rather than later, or we will pay for it in early season points.
