I think you underestimate the Midlands, Yorkshire and North West particularly, on the jobs front.

Re the South, perhaps, but as per both of our earlier points, if there is no infrastructure to support houses, then for me ‘yes’ it should stop.

There needs to be proper consideration and planning, not just blindly building.
Far too sensible

It should be top down from Westminster. A plan with infrastructure, then housing.

partially. you need to have the population to spend on the infrastructure, otherwise a lot potentially wasted. planning needs to consider infrastructure, with spending aligned as permission granted. say, if you allow 1k units in the council area, immediately see added funding for services, infrastucture. that would soon focus councilors minds, planning becomes a vote winner.

“I think you underestimate the Midlands”

Never a phrase I thought I’d ever see typed anywhere.

I have an issue with someone jumping on a post and twisting it to claim that the poster is right wing when it clearly wasn’t the case. It’s that simple.
I am sure he's thrilled that you have taken offence on his behalf, while perhaps not noting the irony (I hope I don't need to explain the trope of 'taking offense on behalf of others') ???

I appreciate that 80 million people voted for Trump, so the fact I have a few 'thumbs ups' for my reasonable comment, and you have none, not even from teabag, indeed means nothing. Much. Although I take more stock of the opinion of the ranks of NSC than the American electorate. Still. Whatever.

You probably had only half the information before you incorrectly inferred something 'clearly wasn't the case' when it was.

But I have put him on ignore now so it doesn't matter. You are welcome to fill your boots with his insights.

You may be thinking of Burgess Hill?

That wasn’t an eco point. It was just a weird situation of 100’s of homes being built on the near Ditchling Common/World’s End side. Whilst the obvious solution is by the improved link road on the west of BH.

My wild guess would be because the masterplan looks neat and tidy, balanced. Someone else suggested brown envelopes.

Could be. Can't say i know the areas tbh, but that was a side point to the major point in my post. Its all about money for the council, nothing else. Thats why they dont spend the millions they are raking in on these developments, on infrastructure.

Interesingly I had a survey from a prospective Labour MP today and he listed out areas of 'concern' to tickbox and schools/infrastructure or even housing wasnt on the list.

We pay the council to empty them

Rubbish strewn everywhere like that is more a symptom of local government dysfunctionality than a slight on the people who've put rubbish in a public bin
I don't think it really works like that, but anyhow. The council do have fox proof bins. Annoyingly there are a couple of them at the Fort Car Park. What they haven't done is removed the old small open bin in my photo. It is the most convenient one for parked cars. If they took it away it would hardly inconvenience any humans, who would maybe require an extra 30 paces to dispose of their rubbish.

So many carbrains complaining about the overdeveloped of Shoreham (let's face it this could be anywhere along the coast).

Yet the first mention of bus lanes, cycle lanes, pedestrianisation gets howls of derision and ripped out in favour of a mode of transport that carries 1 person and is stationary for well over 90% of any 24 hour period.

The same Shoreham thats got a dedicated cycle lane from the town centre to Worthing? And one that the Adur Council has spent millions on making the bridge bigger and moving the Yacht Club back 30 feet to continue the dedicted cycle lane through to the harbour lock so that there is a continuous off road cycle lane from Worthing Town Centre to Brighton Town Centre?

The one that goes right by my house, I walk my dog along it daily and is hardly ever used?

That one?

The trains are not perfect, but I think they are running better than they were 5ish years ago. They are frequent and not hugely expensive.

In terms of cycling, going west to Worthing is a great route. Going east to Brighton, not so much. At peak times that's only for confident cyclists.

I think the local buses are fine.

I'm going to guess that plenty of the people having a pop haven't even considered a form of transport other than cars. I reckon a shift in mindset is what is needed.

Last point, when these sites were industrial, there would have been fewer cars but more lorries and other heavy polluting traffic

The council has spent and is spending millions and millions putting the cycle lane in from Brighton to Worthing, fitted the new foot/cycle bridge to accomodate the cycle lane, moved the Yacht Club ONLY to install a cycle lane, the whole Shoreham Port Developments have the instructions to provide a cycle lane etc...

Anyway, if i get rid of our family car (I dont have one personally), that will help get new schools, new Drs, more dentists, sort out the water and sewage issues? Great. Lets go for it then.

(I ride a motorbike btw)

Some of the traffic problems in Shoreham are due to progressive and seemingly continuous road works on the A259 through Lancing causing traffic to back up hindering free flow.
And those traffic problems are caused by homes being refurbished on the southern side of 259 between Lancing and Shoreham.
Providing local trades employment and tax revenues to fund public services.
Some lovely properties being improved by owners over looking Widewater and the growing number of swans breeding there.
Love watching them fly over, beautiful.

Traffic is a pain, but is temporary.

I’ll do what I like.

It’s called a sense of humour. You should get one, they’re nice.

Beyond that, you’re a right wing troll from what I’ve seen of you on here lately. You can go on ignore.
Love it you have made up your mind as to what I am.
I am a family man, who is a senior professional in a white collar job and wants the best for my family.
I happen to have a different perspective of the world to you, and yet you choose to label me and then ignore. On a football forum.
Where are the grown ups?

Perhaps unpopular, but not in the South East, unless brown field sites

This area is at saturation point.

There is no infrastructure to support further houses…..
Everything feels at breaking point.
And building on flood plains is just ridiculous.

Happy to be labelled a ‘nimby’ on this, because there is no apparent strategy to this, and listening to Starmer, I’d be staggered if he has one either.
No one has, because there is no plan to deal with the amount of houses needed to meet demand

Why are you now banging on about Trump and the American electorate?

Think I pulled you up for likes on a football forum? Get real, you are beyond weird. I just don’t like people twisting peoples words, whether you did it to him or he did it to you. I didn’t do it for appreciation from anyone.

Blair let the cork out with free movement. Admirable on paper, most of us welcomed the hard working folk from eastern Europe.

But infrastructure wasn’t adjusted for the millions of new UK residents, housing supply trickled along.

Looking forward, if millions of new homes were built in the Midlands and North, would vast numbers of southerners in their 20’s and 30’s move there? Would there be the careers and jobs there?

Blair and all who’ve followed patently didn’t/haven’t strategically planned. Leaving the mess we’re on. Shelter say we need 3.1 brand new social housing units. Where are the improved public transport systems, new GP surgeries?
Whilst that is a contributory factor, the other issue is asset wealthy people living in larger houses, and an ever increasing proportion of single occupancy houses. . .may of us haven't moved in years and our house prices have tripled . . . We couldn't afford what we now have (if that makes sense) so just sit tight. . . Population density in certain areas is the other issue.

Not sure what you do about it being grim up north 🙄

Shoreham is of a size where you can get to all of it pretty easy from the train station and the trains are regular. There's buses into Brighton, cycle path along the coast to Worthing.

It won't be for everyone, but there are non driving options if you're living there
I doubt there's many similar sized towns in the country that are better served by public transport than SBS. However, I know of several households withing very short walking distance of the station that never use it. They'll drive to Brighton, to Worthing, to work, Gatwick, wherever. It's insane.

As many do, one of said households once moaned to me about having to wait 10 minutes at the level crossing during their journey to Lancing as so many trains went through. Yeah, go figure.
Industry has moved and people feel compelled to travel stupid discatnces to work.
Exactly! We've become so accustomed with the freedom of transporting ourselves that the location of homes and applying for jobs have a very loose relationship with each other. That's right, get a job 45 mins drive from where you live and then spend your life moaning about it.
The same Shoreham thats got a dedicated cycle lane from the town centre to Worthing?
The problem is that's a leisure route rather than a transport (on a bike) route - Try cycling even moderately quickly between Shoreham town centre and Brooklands.... Always thought the worst thing 'they' did was to make it shared use but I probably understand why, just frustrating.

I would just like to point out how the use of the word ‘trope’, has itself become a trope.
