The big question surely is why could we play so bad in first half, had we played like the second half for 90 mins then i think goals would have come . Potter needs to be asking his players what the f*ck they were playing at.

When substitutions were made they were wrong , Moder looked ok, Maupay, Trossard and Gross were not delivering they should have gone off. Thought Ali J was ok when he came on, not brilliant but not as bad as people were saying. Connolly did nothing so a waste of a sub, looking at the game we needed energy and strength in the box so Zeqiri surely is a better fit . Also Mac has shown he is quite direct.

A predictable result , though did think they might score a second on the break.

they nullified us the same way we did Chelsea.
Our slow pace is quite painful, everyone seems to be more worried about losing possession.
I would rather lose possession in their penalty area having tried something, regroup try again.
Than lose possession in or around our penalty area.
Having now bought a cow and a banjo, I truly dont see how will improve Lallana’s football ability.
We raise our game against an opposition above us and try just try not to lose against anyone below us, with little effect. end of.

Dont agree with the Chelsea point. We didnt pile 11 men behind the ball for 90% of the game like SU did. I thought we had a good go at them.

But agree with the other points.

Potter has no Plan B vs the park the bus mentality. Look at the bottom 3 and the 2 Palarse games.

Well that was a disappointing watch this morning.

We lost it with that awful, lethargic, lackadaisical first half performance where everyone but Bissouma was playing like they were on the beach or it was a pre-season friendly. The second half was better but with our well documented travails in front of goal it never feels like we're going to actually score. And when we did it's offside and the kind of offside that actually made it harder for Moder to score. There's some kind of humour in that probably.

So, so frustrating. If we'd won today it would have erased any lingering relegation worries and would have left us in a good position to achieve three aims: record(premier league) points total, finishing above palace and equaling our highest ever top flight position(13th). Instead we've got to get some points out of a tough run of games(which we're quite capable of) and if we don't hope that Fulham or West Brom don't enjoy a resurgent end to their seasons. Argh!!!

Nice to see Izquierdo back on the pitch though.

1000 pound to remf if we go down next season 21/22.

but that said, i'd sooner be down. the premier league and it's var bullshit, over paid spoilt brat players and owners is not for me. pretty close to sacking the whole thing off. i stand by the remf donation though. lets see in may 2022.

That’s a safe grand for you then. Leeds will push on. Without significant purchases, I don’t see Potter doing the same with us.

Are you serious? We had loads of chances including an open goal from inside the 6 yard box!

Of our 17 shots, only 4 were on target, do you recall Ramsdale making any particularly great saves? Having lots of awful shots doesn’t really equate to creating loads of chances.

You’ve hit the nail on the head here, we generally play better against the decent teams as they actually come out to play and leave us space to play into. WBA, Sheff Utd, Burnley all sit in their own half knowing our crippling lack of pace and penchant for obsessively overplaying in the box means that they easily stifle our toothless attacks. That’s not a slur against those teams by the way, it’s just sensible management.

Having good chances and not looking like scoring aren't mutually exclusive.
If you felt we were unlucky, then fair play.

But for me, we just looked like an OG was more likely than us scoring. (same for them)
It's a recurring theme. and no amount of 0-0s against better teams is going to change that

Surely presenting good shooting chances is the definition of ‘looking like scoring’? Otherwise you’d say that no team ever looks like scoring until they actually do score.

Our xG was over 2 again.

That’s good news then.....

Sorry nwgull - not a dig, just find the whole xG rather tiresome.....

I'm one of the lickers. There is no excuse.

There is a reason though.
We are too slow in the build up.

We cannot break down well set defensive teams.
It isn't as easy as many think, but we are particularly poor at it.

It's a problem which is only going to be resolved with quicker players and quicker play.

We were shit tonight, and there is nothing for anyone to "learn" from that game.

Even so #PotterIn

Fair play but that is one opinion
Another just might be that “potter” is just not good enough either as to how to have a plan b?
I don’t solely blame him for the striker situation that’s ashworth and as hard as it is Bloom for not going to next level on wages

I’ve never defended Ali J.

You stand one yard from a goal and I’ll fire it in full pelt at your heels and see how many you score.

I’m not saying it was a good team moment- it was embarrassingly bad.

It’s just a stat that highlights an annoying weakness, and that’s why it’s tiresome. What it does tell us is that we don’t have problems opening up teams’ defences; the problem is finishing he chances. And I think we know this.

It also means that any talk about Potter not having ‘Plan B’ is a load of crap. No plan is going to work if you’re in a rut of not converting your chances.

Yes, but ultimately it doesn’t tell me anything I can’t see myself.

Well no, but my quoting of last night’s xG was in response to a post saying that we can’t open up a defence. You and I can see this isn’t the problem; others can’t, but the stats suggest we are correct.

It’s a useful stat in terms of goals against as well. With Ryan, our xG conceded was well below our actual goals conceded; with Sanchez xG against the xG conceded as more or less equal to actual goals. I’m sure Ryan’s poor stats were a factor in the decision to give Sanchez his chance (and what a great positive he has been this year).
