At least he is only contracted til the end of the season, then we can offload him and bring in someone a bit more promising.
I don't like to write people off, however his signing does seem very pointless from where I'm standing.

I think I've had a STROKE and woken up in some kind of parallel universe.
keith lowe was on loan i belive and cover for any injurys, probably the same reason Mcfaul was brought in with the possibilty we might un-earth a little gem, in might not be but o well.

So we've taken a cheap gamble and it hasn't worked out.
Not a pointless signing - he obviously showed some potential, and we'd have been a fool not to give him a chance. See Ian Wright, Roy Keane.

Well if he wasn't, then why sign Racon and not play McFaul instead
There's a reason why he doesn't play or even make the bench, anyone can work that out.

He hasnt reached the level that the management and scouts expected, it happens but at least it hasnt cost a great deal to find that out , I wouldn't think.

Being worse than Racon doesn't neccessarily make you shit.
Also, you'll remember that he hasn't played professionally in years, and without a pre-season, he won't have any sort of fitness, and will be off the pace in traininng, let alone matches!
