Unlike Sweden who are truly world class

Nope, not saying that. Just substantially better both now and historically. Sort of like England: most often qualify, sometimes make it far, always very unlikely to win anything.

Gary Breen must have a pretty high regard for the quality of the Irish team or an incredibly low opinion of the Scottish league.

Playing in the championship or sitting on the bench of a premier league team didn't harm his international career so it seems harsh to think that one season on loan in Scotland is going to turn him into a terrible player.

I'm confident, despite Breen's misgivings, that Duffy will be picked for every Ireland squad he is available for this season. I don't think I'm sticking my neck out too far with that prediction...

On the basis that the Irish haven’t got anyone anywhere near as good as Duffy, he could be playing for Leeds and still get picked.

Actually just a day or two before he left they had a pool & dart competition, with Potter expecting Duffy to be one of the favorites.

Potter's photo looks as though it was taken in a faulty "Photo Me" booth at Brighton station, and I am sure they could have found a less flattering photo of Connolly but it would have taken quite a while.

The only problem I see is how easy he will find that league, when you go from playing in very comfortable games against far inferior opposition, particularly as a defender, it’s very tough to suddenly adjust to being under the kosh, which Ireland could be against Slovakia, hope it works out for him either way, not got a bad word to say about SD.

I think Ireland needs Shane Duffy more than Shane Duffy needs Ireland.

It's like saying that if Messi went back to play in Argentina, then his place in the Argentinian National Team was at risk - F#cking Idiotic Journalism

He will only be at Celtic for this season. We will want more money than they can afford to make it perm.

And I agree with Breen, its lower end Champ level at best. Some of those sides would not get out of League 1.

Yes this.

Can you imagine the FAI having a conversation along the lines of "Shall we drop our best player because he's transferred to another club?"

Shane Duffy will be at Celtic for the rest of his Career now probably.

It wouldn't be in Brighton's interest to stand in Shane's way if he wants to stay there. And he will - He would just come back and run his contract down and sit in the Stands and then move for nothing further down the line.

You are probably both right and wrong... I think Bloom gave Duffy/Celtic a good loan deal because he understood that by the end of the season, Celtic is going to have to pay up or look really stupid and upset their fans. However in the unlikely event they fail to do so, I seriously doubt he would sacrifice two of the potentially best years of his career to rot away on the bench or in the stands.

You obviously don't know Shane Duffy - Thats exactly what he would do if he doesn't get the move to Celtic

It won't come to that. Brighton will accept a reduced fee for him
