At one stage many south coast beaches had blue flags which denoted they were clean and up to standard. Shrug your shoulders if you don't care, but don't say it didn't have any effect, because it did.

Things started sliding again when the Tories got in, and the EU took Britain to court in 2012. Another reason why the Tories wanted us out.

The chemicals for treating sewage come from the Netherlands which is now more difficult. Coupled with lack of investment in repairing sewers etc but paying out £Billions in dividends, make a perfect shitstorm.

The swill of the people.

But you campaigned for Johnson's vision, voted for Johnson's vision and got Johnson's vision. So how do you believe it was hijacked again ?

I can't even vote you idiot!
Get your facts right..:dunce:

Incidentally I was able to vote in the 2016 referendum and voted remain.

Expecting your apology.

Everyone cares, except those making money from. Costs too much for the profiteers to put right. Never going to happen therefore sadly.

What’s the impact on fish ? Thought about it when I saw the fishmongers out on Worthing sea front the other day. Surely can’t be great fishing in waters with that much sewage in it ?

The micro plastics fish eat sorts out the sewage. providing you eat less than 1 barbie doll’s equivalent a year you’re fine

Of course you campaigned for leave, voted for remain for purely selfish reasons and now claim you didn't vote at all

My protest was not about remain(For which I voted for for purely selfish reasons as I live in an EU country)
I am just fed up with the constant delaying tactics and also the influence several minority parties have.
It seems that 10 MPs have a say on the future of the UK and the EU within this Parliament.

I live abroad and not only lose a chunk of my pension pot but also lost more due to weak pound. It's already at lowest level v USD since 1985 :(

Never mind,no more immigrants will get into the UK.

Think we just voted to stop that?

But then celebrated the leave result. I can't imagine how I got confused and do apologise :lolol:

*edit*

And I see you've now edited your post to admit you did vote. I've always loved an immigrant trying to stop immigration

You, sir, are a deluded idiot.
Where in the quotes that you clearly are so fixated on trying to prove your point and are prepared to research many of my previous posts to find some that you think help your argument did I " celebrate " the leave result?

I stated very clearly that I WAS ABLE to vote in the referendum but WAS NOT ABLE to vote for Boris.

Enjoy your bone doggie.

WTF is that about?

My advice is you’d need your head testing to go in the sea. Go to a pool if you want a swim.

“ Sussex has been particularly badly hit by sewage pollution, with new figures showing that every single beach between Brighton and Hastings has been marred by waste. Bexhill and Normans Bay beaches remain closed after raw sewage was pumped into the sea. A spokesperson for Southern Water said the firm was “deeply sorry” and understood “the distress this causes”.
However, the situation could be worse than the figures show: at Seaford, in Sussex, the sewage monitor was only working a third of the time.”

I think it depends where you are.
I swim in the sea most days down here in deepest West Sussex and luckily we are ok. As an aside, the sea outside our front door is, at present, boiling with Mackerel and whitebait. The beach is almost crowded with people fishing. We’ve got some for our tea. Yummy.

Well sewage outfalls were always good places to catch Mackerel. Only a little step up from Grey Mullet

I have been sea swimming at least once a week for the past 3 years. As well as checking the waves heights and tides, each time I unfortunately have to check that there hasn't been a discharge recently before getting in. It seems like discharges happen pretty much every time it rains and they occur quite frequently, particularly in the winter.

Last week I got in the sea and there was a thunderstorm out at sea, its started to rain, not heavily but we thought it would be best to get out. There was some rain but the storm never came in, yet when I checked the discharge history sewage was being released at the same time as we were swimming in the sea!

I am convinced that some of these are planned discharges rather than genuine overflows, planned to coincide with forecast rain showers and storms rather than being due to genuine weather events. This is what you get when you hand a monopoly service like water over to private companies, the water companies just pay the fines for the discharges because frankly it's cheaper than sorting out the problem and increasing the capacity. Where is the incentive when there is no competition? These companies would rather pay shareholder dividends than invest in the future and I cant see this changing anytime soon.

After 72 hours any discharge will have been dispersed so most of the time the sea is actually pretty clean, I am actually amazed sometimes at how clear the sea gets off of Brighton after a few calm days, particularly outside of the summer season. Brighton and Hove are also both Blue Flag beaches for water quality so as long as you check that hasn't been a recent discharge before you get in, there shouldn't be a problem.

Cheers. Good man. Always helpful to read actual experience rather than from the armchair. I have been trying to swim weekly (more often in the summer) and would say similar. I have been unnerved in the past week or so I must admit. I always look at the water anyway before I go in - and am always prepared to say Nah - not today. And it is amazing how quickly the sea seems to dilute the sewage. This is what the water companies prey on.
