Run 8 car class 700 (Thameslink trains for the uninitiated) shuttles between Brighton (P7 / P8) and Lewes (P4 / P5) and start the Eastbourne / Hastings / Seaford trains from Lewes (P3)

More frequent, higher capacity trains then serve the station where all the fans are going / coming from

Scroll down and it says the following. I can find out what the situation is for the Moulsecoomb (Lewes Road) car park on matchdays. As far as I'm aware, you can park there. It's about a 25 minute walk to the stadium from there and buses going up Lewes Road stop there.

'Public parking

The university permits the general public to park and pay without an E-Permit during the following hours at a charge of £4.50 per day.
  • Monday–Thursday 5.01pm to 6.59am
  • Friday 5.01pm to Monday 6.59am
The University of Brighton provides parking at its Falmer campus for Brighton and Hove Albion match days, at no charge to full permit holders and £15 to all other vehicles.
Payment is via the payment machines or the Sippi app.
Consecutive overnight parking is not permitted. Parking cannot be reserved and is not guaranteed. Please see local signage for information on payment options and terms and conditions.
Public parking may be restricted for Brighton & Hove Albion FC match days, university open days and for other university events.'

I am not sure but there are 551 spaces which could make a small difference on match days. Run a shuttle from the bus stop on the A27 and back it wouldn’t take that long and based on 2 people per car could remove 1100 people from the P&R queue. Or let people walk or use the ordinary buses.

What would I do if I was Paul Barber?

I would introduce a premium ‘gold Albion travel card’ available for only £300 a season for ST holder and MyAlbion+ can get it for £450. It entitles you to queue jumps on bus and trains, priority entrance to the Terrace and a free umbrella for when it is raining
I pay more to Seagulls Travel
I’m in

Not if it was priced as development land for hundreds of student flats……
Build the 500 flats then change the ticketing T&C’s explaining pre match Richie Reynolds will oversea a raffle and if your seat is one of the 500 or so winners then you are automatically banned form the leaving the site and must use the bed and breakfast function on Bennett’s Field, of which doors open automatically at 6am the day after

Anyone on the Eastbound platform after the train has left is sent to the back of the queue. That would stop people blocking the platform because they don't want an Eastbourne/Seaford train and are waiting for the next one. GO TO LEWES AND WAIT THERE YOU IDIOTS.

Reprogram the electronic signs so that every train that comes in just says LEWES.
Don't let anyone know what train they're on until it's nearly at LEWES.

Maybe the residents will go beserk. Frankly, who cares? They don't have the god given right to stop people parking on a public road near their house.

The only reason the ban exists, is because of some apparently eternally binding negotiation which happened well over a decade ago.

But things have changed. The club has more power and more leverage over the council than it did then. This should be the first "transport improvement" the club should be looking at
Always makes me die when people go beserk over parking outside their house & get all protective over parking spaces. The same people then jump in their car to go shopping, visiting, sightseeing or day out etc etc & what do they do?…….park outside someone’s house of course!!!!

I don't get the parking restrictions in Moulsecoombe/Coldean thing. Given there will only be about 24 home games a season, that averages one every 3 weeks or so. Hardly something for the residents to hyperventilate about.

At the back end of the Withdean era I used to park down Tongdean Rd and walk from there, shock horror, no-one died.
I agree. One of the ways to alleviate the problems with public transport is to allow private transport to shoulder more of the burden. I wouldn't have local parking as a free-for-all, you'd need a permit (like the current visitors permits) so that would manage the numbers and stop the area being swamped with cars.

The council will make money from the permits, and perhaps the club could get a commission. Illegally parked and/or non-permitted cards will be towed, £300+ retrieval fee. This coupled with a bus lane and enforcement camera at the Falmer junction could turn this into a real earner for the council, and won't cost the club a penny.
