French fans broke up the safe standing railings and attacked away fans with them :lolol: I have no idea what is happening in France it’s like they’ve just discovered 80’s football violence.

So obviously you don't subscribe to the evidence that a loud partisan section of the crowd can lift a home team and promote better results. Better results are better for the club's league position and business. Currently those who want to generate an atmosphere are too widely dispersed in the North Stand and a rail seating section would offer the chance to concentrate them.

So when are you going to organize the auditions for the standing area? I'm guessing that it will be a requirement of those in that area to sing loud and regularly and failure to do so could see your right to that area rescinded.

The back rows of the North Stand have always been standing on the basis the club are turning a blind eye. Converting that area to safe standing would mean the very same people would occupy the SS area. From the other recent thread, the only benefit from SS would be a fewer people getting bruised shins although I'm not sure how widespread that actually is. Of course, it could be replaced by people getting bruised jumping against the rail for the seats!!!

Because NSC is made up of bad fans and armchair fans (most of whom are also fat, elderly men who couldn't stand for 45 minutes). The proper fans that travel away do want a standing section
This is not far from the truth.

The fact that a large number in the NS and most Albion fans at away games CHOOSE TO STAND obviously demonstrates the basic demand.

The atmosphere at The Amex would be hugely enhanced by a new standing area at the West end of the NS and into the NW corner. Sitters displaced would mostly get the option of better NS seats more central and higher up.

Put safe standing in, football is awash with money.
If you want to view from safe standing opt to do that as your choice, if you want to sit down then opt for that instead.

Going by the large numbers that stand when away anyway, there is sufficient home demand.

Oh and change the batcrap daft law so you can have a beer in view of the pitch.......like other sports.
Make that only available in safe standing areas though (extra revenue)..............wonder what the demand would be then.......

The beer rule makes absolutely no sense, you are encouraging speed drinking

Now, I don't necessarily disagree with you, insofar as any money (relatively small in the context of a PL club budget) spent on safe seating is ultimately being spent on improving a proportion of fan's matchday experience, rather than anything else it could be spent on.

But to claim that a rail at (roughly) hip level presents an equivalent risk to something at shin or knee level is clearly absolute bollocks, and only weakens the argument that you're trying to make.

I don't agree that our supporters don't want it; it depends who you ask and how you phrase the question.

If you included people in the East Stand, West Stand and the wings of the North Stand in the survey then the majority would say no. However, if you directed the question to "Brighton supporters who want to stand and sing" then you would easily get 2,000 people who would go for it.

No point in limiting the question to those you know will say yes. This is not something to be decided by popular vote. The club has to decide based on the implications for it.

Sorry but thats bobbins. You might recall we had standing at the Goldstone, and finished 91st.

Rail seating in the North Stand still doesn't mean you can just go and stand where you want, so the fans in the North would still be just as 0dispersed as they are now - the only difference being they'll all have a barrier to lean against if they want to.

Errr...no. Those who want to stand would apply for tickets in the rail seating section and those who want to sit would go to the seated areas. As has been done already at Celtic for example...

It really is quite simple. Taking Celtic as an example; they took a corner wedge of the home end and made it rail seating. If you wanted to stand and sing you applied for your season ticket to be moved into that section. If you preferred to sit you transferred out of that section.

Many away fans do choose to stand but many others stand because they have no choice if they want to see the game because of those who want to stand.

Well, obviously.

But I'm challenging your assertion that the atmosphere would automatically be boosted with safe standing. Safe standing still isn't a return to terraces. Its just a seat you're allowed to stand in front of. The same protocols will apply, you can't move around and cluster towards people who are singing and making a noise. You're still stuck with wherever your ticket says, as you are now with a seat.

And again - people standing doesn't always equate to a "brilliant atmosphere". If the team are playing shite then it will be just as morgue-like as it is anywhere else. Its nice to fantasise that the North Stand could be like a mini Yellow Wall if it was all rail seating. The reality would be very different.

When BHA are on song, the atmosphere at the Amex is superb. I've had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the sheer noise of the place when we're giving someone a proper humping. We don't need rail seats for that - we just need a team thats doing the business.

But none of that is happening. Barriers (or rails) will be waist high not shin high. People will still be in designated places so there won’t be any of the atmosphere of the old terraces.

But the people who will apply for rail seats will be those who want to stand and sing... Go on YouTube and lobserve the atmosphere generated at Dortmund and Celtic for e.g.

The Amex isn't Celtic or Dortmund and the installation of safe standing won't change that.

Exactly.

This notion that everyone standing in front of a rail seat will be making some kind of "wall of noise" is for the birds. It didn't happen with terraces, it wouldn't happen with this any more than it does now.

It’s not the important thing ultimately though.

Some people want to stand. They do now in certain areas at the Amex and see it as their right away from home.

Some people prefer to sit, but have to stand - particularly away from home - because others refuse to sit in an all seater stadium.

Give people a choice and it will naturally sort itself out. Demand might even increase from those who are fed up with either being asked constantly to sit when they want to stand or have to stand when they don’t want to.

Sorry, but who the hell are you to dictate that people that may well have had a seat in a certain area for possible 10 years have to move to accommodate your whim to have a rail in front of you rather than a seat.

Parrish and the Ultra playgroug were slated on here when they had an agreement to move to the middle of the Holmesdale end and quite rightly. Now we have our own version unfolding in front of our eyes.

Don't remember many people who done Spurs away a couple of seasons ago complaining about the rails in the away end.

Sent from my CPH2195 using Tapatalk

You're right of course. However, how many people complain about standing where there are just seats at away games, I certainly don't.

And the people who applied for tickets for the back four rows of the NS did so on the basis the club would turn a blind eye to standing. Anyone could apply for a rail seat season ticket and may have no interest in singing themselves, they just hope to be amongst it.
